Make sure this is thoroughly clean and wiped with rubbing alcohol creating a grease-free surface to which the repair compounds can properly adhere. TOP TIP: To make a stamp you need about half a mini pack of sugru, line up another hack before you start so you don't waste any (see Step 8). You could choose to leave the entire dash as it is with the rubberized undercoating as the finish, but the primer will help to seal the pores of the rubber and prepare the surface for the top-coat of paint.

Wipe down the entire dash again and if there are any high spots from the welding stick, you can either re-melt it to reduce its height or sand it down.Keep the tip of the iron on one side of the stick just long enough to soften it up and then flip the stick so that the melted side is now facing into the groove. Work the heating iron slowly down the welding stick so that you melt a little at a time until you reach the end of the groove.

You will even notice a difference in the spray tips they use; they rarely clog and consistently put out a uniform spray. You need a product that will adhere and hold to the dash and is thick enough to fully conceal the repair underneath. Unless otherwise noted, only one of each item is required for this DIY, but you may need more of a specific product depending on how many cracks and holes you are trying to repair in your dash.

If this is the first time you are attempting this kind of repair, I would recommend taking the time to read through this entire post first. If you still have stick left over, use the welding tip to melt through the extra piece to cut it off. The Fiber-Flex sticks melt fast and become very sticky, so this will make your repair go many times faster when compared to polyurethane rod.

So to make your car seem as good as new then you will need to match the colours so that no one will notice your repair. rating as the trim pieces are longer than they need to be and the paint on the screws chip easily and aren't perfectly black after being installed. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. So looking at this has left me with the prospect of trying to re-create one in Fiber glass without destroying a Mint original in the process.

You may notice a little difference between the sheen of the paint in areas with undercoating compared to areas without. FiberFlex Welding Rods with the airless plastic welding side of a nitrogen plastic welder or an one of our other airless plastic welders. First, a little background on the welding stick you will be using and why I chose it over other plastic welding materials. Since your car dash is located directly below the windscreen it is constantly exposed to the sun causing the chlorine in the PVC of the vinyl to gradually evaporate.

Proper preparation of your dash for the application of the surface filler is critical to the success of this repair.I was torn as to which method to go with since there are a few here in the DIY section of the forum but I think I'm going with this one. This makes an excellent filler for padded dashboard repair since the sanding is normally done by hand. Your chances of doing a quality job will likely increase if you are able to have access to all cracks from any angle. You don’t want to completely fill the groove flush with the dash because this will make it much more difficult for the surface filler to adhere.
