This is because the Cue-giver gets a point for every marker within the interior boundaries of the scoring rig.

In general, I prefer heavier games to party games but now and then a party game comes along and hooks me. The colors on the game board are presented in gradient fashion, meaning that colors are next to other, similar colors.Just two more thoughts: first, if I wanted to get an interesting answer from you – one nobody else is likely to get – what question would I have to ask? The subtle difference between colors is the core of the gameplay, so having any sort of color blindness will make the game very difficult.

The longer you play, the more those colors can blend together, making if difficult to see the differences between them. Sometimes a game comes along and you look at it and think: “How did someone not come up with this sooner? Also I apologize because the official name of the component isn’t ‘scoring rig’, but I’ve become rather attached to the moniker. But in taking a closer look, the highlighted and shaded areas may be anywhere from a light pink to a reddish brown in actual appearance. You can place your second piece on any space on the gameboard that doesn’t already have another piece on it.

In a lot of games where a single player is a conductor, leader, facilitator, etc, that player rarely has an opportunity to score points on their turn. So it seems this difficulty in coming up with cues is going to be group dependent, with some people being faster at it than others. This is a great game to play for mixed ages… elementary-aged kids and their grandparents can enjoy this game together. Second, with two teenagers in the house, I had a desire to find a game that would appeal to not only them and us, but also their grandparents. I’m sure there are more artistic minded folks that might see Hues and Cues as a more creative outlet (or even a test of color theory or something). For more board and card game how to plays/rules and reviews, check out our complete alphabetical list of board game posts. In fact, I first discovered this game during the Gen Con Spring Showcase where I watched a group play the game live. Other than that, I don’t have any formal creative process – or even scheduled time set aside to work on them! If the maximum number of points a guesser can get is 3 points with a single marker, initiating the scoring after a single cue can limit the points gained by the other players.
