About this deal

Meet Fido—a “yaller” mutt who was Abraham Lincoln’s constant companion and pampered family pet at the time he was elected President. It is full of humor and dog ideas about what is going on with obedience training and other furless human activities concerning man's best friend. George Washington’s transformation from farmer to Father of Our Country—as told by his dog Sweetlips! Stubby the war dog narrates the story of his life–from his days as a stray to his time on the battlefields of France!

The fast-paced-story is hilarious as Junior makes wonderful observations at the strange things that the humans around him do and Butler has included a plethora of pooch puns and doggie jokes. Interesting to read how a dog might view the world and not understand why humans are the way they are. His books have sold in excess of 300 million copies worldwide and he has been the most borrowed author in UK libraries for the past nine years in a row. With realistic black-and-white illustrations by renowned illustrator Tim Jessel and an factual appendix, dog-loving early chapter book readers will beg for more! With realistic black-and-white illustrations throughout and a fact-filled appendix, this is the kind of historical fiction that reluctant middle-grade readers beg for!DOG DIARIES opens (dare I say appropriately) with a polite butt sniff introducing us to the loveable though slightly emotionally bruised Junior, the last mutt standing in his pack at the Hills Village Dog Shelter. I enjoyed the obedience lesson aspect part of the book too as Junior goes up against a stuck up poodle and proves having fun can be the best not coming first.

Parents need to know that Dog Diaries is the first book in a spin-off series for younger readers featuring the characters in James Patterson's best-selling Middle School series -- as seen through the eyes of that series' hero Rafe's dog, Junior. Younger readers meet the Middle School world in this new series, narrated by the excitable, trouble-prone dog of Rafe Khatchadorian, aka Ruff Catch-a-Doggy Bone. Here's MIDDLE SCHOOL for young readers--through the eyes of Rafe Khatchadorian's misbehaving mutt, Junior! Stricker was such a b**** from the beginning I wanted to reach through the book and smack her she totally got what she deserved at the end of the book. Adopted by Private John Robert Conroy in 1917 when the dog wandered into training camp, Stubby soon became the mascot for the 26th Yankee division–even learning how to salute!

Junior's dog's-eye view of the world is often hilariously wrong about what's going on and how to deal with it. Without these cookies, we won't know if you have any performance-related issues that we may be able to address. This cute little pup shows her what unconditional love looks like, and Dana does her best to look after her new pal, too. Togo is a Siberian husky (a small and feisty breed); these are the overlooked sled-dogs that saved the day in the 1925 serum run in Alaska.

But few people have ever heard of 12-year-old Togo and his musher Leonard Seppala, who carried the serum for almost double the length of any other team, and twice violated warnings to avoid perilous Norton Sound and instead ran straight over the frozen ice! Among his creations are some of the world's most popular series including Alex Cross, the Women's Murder Club, Michael Bennett and the Private novels. Young readers will hear from Fido about Abraham Lincoln’s love for all creatures (great and small), his unique methods of child-rearing, his most famous speeches—including the Emancipation Proclamation—and the tragedy that cut short his life. Young readers/read-aloud listeners have plenty of chances to predict what's actually going to happen vs. Fortunately, Junior meets a boy who smells like junk food and broken rules - none other than the great Rafe Khatchadorian (“Katch-a-doggy-bone”) - who decides to become Junior’s pet human.

Junior has his own terms for people, places and things that humans refer to differently--for instance, he believes Rafe Khatchadorian's name is Ruff Catch-A-Doggy-Bone. There is excitement to this book, all of these things are important to good children’s historical fiction. There are more poop/pee jokes in it than I personally care for--but they seem just about right for 7-9 year-olds. Like the Spirit of Christmas Past, Timber—aka Tiny Tim—journeys from Victorian England to the present to reveal what life was like for the man who “invented” Christmas!
