I love a murder mystery anyway, but this one was made better as I cared about the 4 kids who were suspects. Eli Kleinfelter: Lawyer who works for the pro bono legal group Until Proven. Second, a side character was also said to be depressed and she was his accomplice. She framed his death on the other 4 students by planting evidence. Through her, depression is villainized once again. I really dunno how long “One of Us is Lying” was already on my list but it feels like it’s been on my TBR forever. *lol* Efe (October 7, 2021). [12] McManus stated that her main objective was to keep her characters' emotional cores intact. [13] In an interview, Madrona was asked if the series would stay faithful to its source material; he responded by saying, "We've been faithful to the spirit of the story and the themes and the characters, but also trying to add some little twists and turns here and there so we can surprise readers of the book." Madrona found the idea of a single season that tells a complete story while solving the show's biggest mystery very satisfying. He also claimed that after a season, viewers often lost interest in a show and stopped watching. Because of this, the series reveals who killed Simon, but many other questions are left unanswered at the end of the first season. [14] THIS BOOK!! You guys, I thought this book was brilliant! So many great elements all thrown together.

Tightly plotted and brilliantly written, with sharp, believable characters, this whodunit is utterly irresistible' - HEAT Before detention is over for the day, Simon is dead, and apparently, it wasn't an accident. It's not long before investigators discover that the next day, Simon was planning to publish items about Cooper, Bronwyn, Addy, and Nate—items which could potentially destroy all of their lives. Suddenly the four of them are the suspects in Simon's murder, and are pariahs among their fellow students, most of whom hated Simon until he died, then turned him into a tragic figure. Nathaniel "Nate" Macauley: One of the four point-of-view characters; the ' criminal'. Is a 'bad boy' who is on probation for selling drugs. My personal favourite THE GIRL WITH GLASSES GETS THE HOT GUY! This literally never happens in books or films so thank you Karen McManus for including this and not making her take them off ‘to be prettier’ And outsider Simon, creator of the notorious gossip app at Bayview High, won't ever talk about any of them again. The four narrators become suspects in Simon’s murder, as they each had a motive to kill Simon: he ran a gossip app called About That, and his next post was to feature their darkest secrets. When they are accused, the secrets gradually come out, in part because of Tumblr posts by the supposed murderer. Their lives change as a result: Addy’s cheating on her boyfriend Jake Riordan results in their breakup and her ostracization; Bronwyn’s cheating in chemistry class imperils her admittance to Yale and sends her into Nate’s arms; Cooper’s homosexuality puts his baseball future on the line and reveals fake friends; and Nate’s past criminal history including drug dealing ultimately lands him in jail, accused of Simon’s murder. I don’t think this book will blow anyone away. The mystery is solid, but not, like, earth-shattering. The message from the rest of the book is fairly predictable, reminding us to be kind to others, to be empathetic and tolerant, etc. But I liked it enough that I’ll most likely read the sequel, One of Us Is Next, when it comes out in January 2020. One of Us is Lying Movie / TV Series This is definitely the type of book that the more you think of, the more resentment you will have towards it. The more problems that you will think of and the more you will question what you just read. I enjoyed it when I was reading, simply because of how fast I sped through it, but, was it really, truly, actually good? Upon further reflection prior to this review, ok going to have to say no.

To be honest, I don’t even have a clue what it is about. I only know there’s supposed to be a murder and some sort of “Breakfast Club”? XD

Adelaide "Addy" Prentiss: One of the four point-of-view characters; the ' princess'. Is one of the popular students at the school. She is besotted with her boyfriend, Jake, but her secret is that she cheated on him with TJ, another boy within their friendship group. She eventually confesses to Jake, who breaks up with her. She is comforted by her older sister, Ashton, who helps her through the break-up and with her self-discovery. At Bayview High, Bronwyn, Simon, Nate, Cooper, and Addy attend detention with teacher Mr. Avery after he found mobile phones in each of their school bags, against his strict no-phone policy. However, each of the students claims that the phones are not theirs and that someone has planted them there to get them in trouble. They hear a collision and some loud arguments in the school parking lot, and Mr. Avery leaves to investigate. Simon—creator of the 'About That' gossip app in which the personal lives of students at Bayview High are posted for the rest of the school to see—begins a speech about the stereotypical personalities of the other four students and how he, through his app, is the omniscient narrator. He drinks tap-water from a plastic cup and suffers a fatal allergic reaction due to his peanut allergy. The others attempt to help, but it is too late and Simon dies in the hospital.
