About this deal

This story is about 4 people 2 couples/ friends ....deceipt,lies,revenge, affairs infatuation, lust. I loved the first of the book. The character of Naomi when she was a little girl was very strong and grew up into an even stronger woman. The book tells the story of what Naomi, her brother Mason, and her mom go through with the dad going to jail. The mom was an idiot and kept seeing the father even in jail. But, she had 14 something years to be brainwashed by him.

Personally, I struggled with the psychological aspects the book discussed. I've had a personal experience with stalking and don't really care to understand the psychological elements of stalkers. It doesn't give them the right to stalk and torment others, in my personal opinion. That said, I found myself shaking my head in agreement with the experts the author interviewed for the book. An attempt to contradict the belief is likely to arouse an inappropriately strong emotional reaction, often with irritability and hostility. King takes a generally harmless trait – being a bookworm – and makes it bloodcurdling. Annie Wilkes imprisons and tortures an author, hoping to create a better end for her favourite heroine. There’s a slyness to King’s portrait of Annie; most of us have obsessed over a beloved character, and authors wield a special power over our emotional lives. At the same time, readers’ expectations hold sway over authors – King was partially inspired to write Misery by his fans’ vocal outcry when he attempted a genre other than horror. While the first put me in killer mode, where I wanted to torture her father to death (a very slow one, though!), the next parts were beautiful! Young Naomi is excited about her upcoming birthday and to see if she’ll get a new bicycle. Naomi wakes up during the middle of the night and sees her father heading into the woods, she thinks he’s hidden her bike in a secret place and is going to put it together to surprise her, so she follows him. Instead, the horrible secret that she uncovers will affect Naomi and her family for the rest of their lives….what she finds is truly horrifying but her actions make Naomi hero.

By the time I finished my speech, they were all staring at me with mouths open. Crap. I’d gone too far. I shouldn’t have said all those things. (c) Holy freakin' prologue is what it was. It was creepy and scary and had this sinister feel that really put the readers right into the middle of the action. I also found the story in general made me feel uneasy if not at times uncomfortable which is exactly what a great physiological thriller should do! h rating: 4 stars. Naomi. I liked her. I appreciated her strength through all the horrible things she had to go through.

Nicole interviews psychologists, police, lawyers and other experts who confirm that trolls will do this for years - especially when they have unfulfilled, empty lives where they are unemployed or underemployed and are free to craft their entire lives as disembodied avatars with no sense or responsibility and a massive axe to grind. Other topics include the difference in gender attitudes, the line between love/loyalty and obsession, mental health, religion and the importance of a Victim Impact Statement (VIS). In fact, Madigan includes her own VIS at the end of the book, and it is an extremely powerful document; she states that connecting with others is empowering, validating and comforting. This book is so deliciously dark, I'm tempted to say something corny like "Your only obsession will be with this novel." I would never say that.Things get even more exciting the moment the book caught up to the present. The present being Naomi having just bought a huge house in the middle of Nowhere, America despite not wanting roots and all the responsibilities that come along with it. The present also brought us Xander "be still my heart" Keaton. We see Naomi, now grown up, as she finally stops her wandering around and stops and buys a house. A gorgeous house, but in bad shape. So she decides to renovate it and, one by one, many people come in her life when, except her uncles and brother, nobody was there before.

Obsession is a beautifully written story that explores a traumatic subject with grace, dignity, honesty, vulnerability and a determination for change. Her love interest, town mechanic Xander Keaton, was wonderfully swoony. He was well read, played in a band, owned his own garage, and was well liked. All in all he was a genuinely good guy!! I don’t think it’s wrong for an author to write outside his or her experience. I just want to see it done with care, as to not hurt the society it influences or the people who’ve survived it. It really pushed the boundaries of relationships and obsessions making the reader feel uncomfortable at times but completely absorbed.I thought this would be fun but also empowering for all females who’ve had to endure something similar. Maybe the author had good intentions, but this feels like pure frivolity. Obsession is not just a story about one woman’s obsession of her husband cheating on her. It’s about more. So much more. It’s about obsession with everything: sex, drugs, attention. It’s about depression and bad decisions. It’s about selfishness and more selfishness. It’s about being a complicated human being. Most importantly, it’s about showing that we’re ALL complicated, selfish and obsessed. Some are just better at hiding it than others. Obsession, thankfully, does have a successful conclusion. Thanks to Nicole’s journalistic skills & bloody-minded persistence, her stalker is charged–but after YEARS of stalking. A gripping blend of memoir, investigation and expert analysis, Obsession takes a deep dive into the disturbing phenomenon of stalking.

The Obsession was a suspense novel, and following the authors formula it guaranteed that someone was going after the books heroine, Naomi Bowes. Rob and Carly are the "it" couple - Rob a doctor, Carly a bombshell blonde and a nurse. Together they appear to have it all, three wonderful children and a strong friendship with another amazing couple - Craig and Jenny. But now, I must ask another deadly question- just how much would you trust your spouse with your "friend?" Your friend Jenny, whom you now dub, the "bitch-whore." With that description, I was pretty sure I was going to be hooked on this one straight away. And I was.Warning: I'm not being vulgar or anything bad, but this book made me angry and I may be itsy bitsy sarcastic. I tried to leave the emotion out of it, but the longer I wrote, the more it showed. I may come to this review and make it more presentable in later days, months or years, but I wouldn't count on it. While she remodeled and grew closer to Xander, someone from her past was lurking and casting his net closer and closer. Naomi’s brother, a FBI agent, was also taking a closer look, but maybe not close enough. This book does contain some very sensitive subjects and lots of sexual themes so approach with caution! Occasionally, Karissa will post an image with a vague reference to me. They are too subtle for me to report, but I take screenshots anyway. She rescues a stray dog, lately on named Tag for obvious reasons, who adds a nice touch to the story.
