About this deal

This book was something I had to read for my english class and I have to admit, when I first heard of it I thought it was going to be really boring. But to be honest it really surprised me. The book title and cover makes it seem like it's just about a cat and while it's true that a majority of this book focuses on the cat Bob it wasn't as bad as I had thought. The story of Bob the Cat and his owner James has been told for many audiences, and this one is a lovely picture book for the youngest readers and listeners. Unlike the earlier Bob books, which were in James's voice, this one is written from the cat's point of view. In spring 2007, Bowen realised he wanted to better himself for the sake of Bob and he decided to quit the heroin he was on and go onto a methadone programme. He continued busking in Covent Garden and living in a supported housing programme in Tottenham, London. McCahill, Mike. "A Street Cat Named Bob review – so much kitty litter". The Guardian . Macaferri Music (22 November 2018). "James Bowen – And Then Came Bob [Official Video]". YouTube . Retrieved 26 August 2020. This film offers almost exactly what you would expect it to and there's nothing wrong with that. We've seen better movies about the trials of homelessness, the tortures involved in getting clean from heroin, especially the latter when it's worth remembering this is a 12A certificate and so the horrors experienced by the main character can't be quite as lurid, nightmarish and unsettling as those depicted in TRAINSPOTTING. Kanczula, Antonia (15 March 2012). "Bob the cat's star turn". Islington Now.co.uk . Retrieved 2 November 2015. I absolutely adore this story. I truly believe that animals have a way of knowing which human is in need of their affection. I also love true stories involving rescued animals. We rescued our cat, Miracle, from the middle of Main Street in our town when she was just two weeks old. Stories that involve animals getting a second chance at life make my heart smile. For the Love of Bob is a children's version of The World According to Bob and the sequel to Bob: No Ordinary Cat. It was released on 3 July 2014.We are all given second chances every day of our lives, but we don’t usually take them. Then I met Bob.’

This book is inspired by the true story of Bob, a homeless cat, and James, a street performer. I read this book to my kids (ages 4 & 6) before bed. They stayed up well past "lights out" time to discuss it. They determined that the book was really good because it's about a cat, and the fellow named James was smart for adopting Bob. My four year old said her favorite part of the book was the pictures, while my six year old liked how the cat found a new home. My kids don't usually discuss books together, so I was surprised and happy to see them talking about it and discussing what they liked and why. Lobb, Adrian. Following his parents’ divorce, he moved to Australia with his mother and stepfather. Home life was tense and, because the family moved frequently, James was unsettled at school. He was frequently bullied, and began sniffing glue while still in education, becoming a self-confessed “tearaway kid” who would later be diagnosed with ADHD, schizophrenia and manic depression. In 1997 he returned to the UK and lived with his half-sister, but this arrangement did not last; in time, he became homeless and began sleeping on the streets. From this point, James spent almost 10 years either sleeping rough or staying briefly in charity-run shelters; it was during this time that he began to use heroin in an attempt to escape the realities of homelessness.

After getting into a fight with a resident street cat, Bob found his way to James Bowen, a local street performer. Seeing that Bob was injured, Bowen took him in and cared for his wounds. What happened next was the beginning of a lifelong friendship that can never be broken. James began making some good money, but his drug addiction tormented him. He wanted to do something with his life, for himself and for Bob. With the new burst of encouragement, James decided to attempt to overcome heroin all while selling magazines, hiding from street patrols, and helping Bob overcome his tendency to sneak bites from trashcans. Bob The Cat Series Books 1 - 5 Collection Set by James Bowen Bob The Cat Series Books 1 - 5 Collection Set by James Bowen

This was a book I read simply to satisfy my gnawing thirst for literature when I’ve devoured every book on my bookshelf. Never did I imagine to find a feline with such a big heart. As Bob constantly followed Bowen when he was going to work, Bowen bought Bob a harness for safety and allowed him to come along to his regular spots in Covent Garden and Piccadilly Circus, travelling in the window seat of the number 73 bus. The public reaction was positive and the pair became locally well known, their visibility increasing still further when Bowen began selling The Big Issue. The public began uploading videos of Bowen and Bob to YouTube and tourists would visit Covent Garden to see them. During this time, Bowen decided to conclude his methadone treatment. He credits this development to Bob, saying "I believe it came down to this little man. He came and asked me for help and he needed me more than I needed to abuse my own body. He is what I wake up for every day now. He’s definitely given me the right direction to live my life".
