Description

Mothra's egg was fleshy rather than hard, and appeared to be coated in vine-like structures which fell away during Mothra's birth (whether these were a part of the egg or due to Mothra's life-attracting influence is unknown). When metamorphosing, her chrysalis (from what little was seen of it through the waterfall) appeared to resemble a gigantic version of a moth chrysalis with a long and slender shape, producing bright and flashing bioluminescent lights which highlighted blue- and yellow-seeming segments.

Much like the land-based Servum, Mothra's larval form shares many similarities to the Ohmu from Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind such as the armored carapace, dagger-like legs on the front part of her body, and a glowing body changing colors depending on her mood (blue for calm and red for enraged or distressed). Female MUTOs have the ability to molt into a MUTO Prime, granting them increased size and strength, along with seismic concussive powers and other abilities. Dr. Emma Russell theorizes two possible explanations for how a female reaches this stage: either a female MUTO metamophoses after killing and consuming her mate, or after killing off her broodmates and emerging as the strongest individual, thus being able to molt into a MUTO Prime. Emma is unsure which theory, if either, is true, but she comments that the latter theory seems more likely based on analysis of the MUTOs' reproductive organs. Following Ghidorah's death, newspaper articles reveal that an egg suspected to be that of Mothra has been discovered.Larsen, Josh (May 6, 2014). "Godzilla (1998)". Larsen On Film. Though the female MUTO simply crouches into the nest when she lays her eggs, the eggs are neatly arranged in rows when Ford and his team enter the nest. She may possess an ovipositor that allows her to adjust her eggs to the source of energy. This is further implied by the fact that MUTO Prime possesses several. Despite praising Elliott and Rossio's script, Emmerich discarded it, stating, "It had some really cool things in it, but it is something I never would have done. The last half was like watching two creatures go at it. I simply don't like that." Emmerich instead decided to develop new ideas from scratch, stating, "I didn't want to make the original Godzilla, I wanted nothing to do with it. I wanted to make my own. We took part of [the original movie's] basic storyline, in that the creature becomes created by radiation and it becomes a big challenge. But that's all we took. Then we asked ourselves what we would do today with a monster movie and a story like that. We forgot everything about the original Godzilla right there." [12] [34] Creature design [ edit ] Tatopoulos showed this concept drawing (his personal favorite) to Emmerich and Devlin at Cannes 1996 which convinced them to move forward with the project. The mysterious sphere, around 1.5m in diameter, was spotted on a beach in Hamamatsu City on February 21, with police cordoning off the surrounding area to investigate, according to local media. Little is known about the origins of this voracious predator, although its evolutionary purpose is abundantly clear. The Skullcrawler exists to devour, destroy, and dominate. Subterranean in nature, burrowing up through the geologically unstable steam vents across Skull Island, it is as though the Skullcrawler climbed up out of Hell itself.

Macpherson felt that the script's depiction of Godzilla was "relentless", noting, "very much a Godzilla POV, so you neither identified with Godzilla nor with the scientists trying to protect the world." He also took issue that the first half of the script was driven by destruction and by the script's mid-point, there was "monster fatigue" and no "encore," stating, "So I thought the audience would be fatigued and ready for something new – and the new thing wasn't delivered." Macpherson attempted to resolve that issue while retaining the highlights of Elliott and Rossio's script. [12]

When the 2014 MUTOs met up to mate, the male provided the female a nuclear warhead it had promptly seized as a sign of courtship, and they appeared to display affection by pressing their heads together once the female accepted the male's nuptial gift. Afterwards, the male MUTO seemingly acted as a sentry, guarding the San Francisco area they claimed as their nest against Godzilla whilst the female reproduced, although the female immediately afterward didn't hesitate to charge into a fight with Godzilla herself when the latter got past the male to their nest. The male and female MUTOs display teamwork in their fight against Godzilla, particularly when they gained an upper-hand and begin beating him down. The male also appears to display protectiveness of the female based on some of his strikes, such as using his legs and flight to drag Godzilla off of and away from the female. The male takes advantage of its streamlined build and flight, favoring surprise strikes and evasion where possible when engaging Godzilla. Jacobson, Colin (April 4, 2013).
