Moving to the UE Live, my first custom, I lowered the gain to medium. Playing at a much lower volume as well, the detail was still present. I appreciated the transparency of sound emitting from the songs and kept that volume lower by choice. The trio came across as completely compelling to me, and the “mid-fi” Topping duo could certainly hold their own with the Live attached. I do wish for more bass from the Live, but due to its excellent clarity I appreciated the tuning and the pairing with the Topping duo.

Aside from having a more linear tonality, the A30 Pro is also a step above the Magnius in terms of detail retrieval. Drum hits come across as more textured, giving a sense of hollowness while having a natural sense of impact. Other than that, the channel crosstalk seems to be the same on all headphone outputs, strengthening the fact that it is a single ended amplifier with balanced input and outputs. Having a SNR of around 140 dB, I’m sure that A30 PRO will sound crystal clear and extremely detailed as its NFCA brothers did. Output impedance is negligible at just 0.1 Ω on SE and BAL, so you can be sure that it will preserve all the damping factor for an immaculate transient response and diaphragm control. For TOTALLY UNRATIONAL REASONS, I tend to prefer DAC's with AK44xx chips. But if Cirrus has been chosen, I assume JohnYang1997 has good reasons for this choice. Topping Electronics & Technology, known as ‘TOPPING’, is based in Guangzhou, China, and was established in 2008. They build some of the best DACs and AMPs when it comes to the price-to-performance ratio. They have a dedicated R&D team of skilled engineers and audiophiles. Topping also states that they are heavily invested in the latest audio testing machinery such as the APx555 from Audio Precision. Of course, all of this means one thing for us consumers, better devices! On the balanced outputs though, the A30 Pro and the Magnius have similar output numbers, where they both offer 6W into 16Ω. As the impedances increase, both amplifiers have a similarly rated power level, with the Magnius having a slightly higher rated power at 500mW into 600Ω compared to the A30 Pro’s 420mW.Now also a sneak peek of A30 pro.. not much on output levels but we can already see a super clean output + general I/O I got this in a few weeks ago but just opened it up on saturday. Unfortunately it came with a USA plug attached to a 230/240V adapter (its not a wall wart, its a floor wart with non removable plugs).

This gives the L30 a bit of a hard time, where it trips over its own feet a bit, while the A30 Pro confidently sails through these more complicated passages. SMSL SH-9 Design Sub-bass went low, easily delivering lowest notes in a tight, impactful and fast manner. It was snappy and highly engaging, delivering decent amounts of air down low. Sadly, due to a less impressive scale, few layers of bass cascaded on top of each other, creating an illusion that there is less air traveling around. It is still linear in here, so expect bass notes only when those are called for, this is not a bass heavy amplifier, far from it. My electronic music collection sounded impressive with LCD-4 and HE1000SE, thanks to its ride-fast ‘n die-young personality, it was pressing down the gas pedal, pumping good vibes and positive emotions all the time. Mid-bass wasn’t over-emphasized, it doesn’t have rises or drops in here, just a perfectly neutral mid-bass rendition, that is engaging and present when called for. With something like Audeze LCD-4 it felt agile and rumbling, decaying the bass notes in a natural way.The available headphone outputs are similar, where they both have a 4-pin XLR and ¼” output, but the A30 Pro has a 4.4mm pentaconn connection. Both have those connections for convenience though, so buying a 4.4mm pentaconn adaptor for the SH-9 will allow for connection to headphones terminated in 4.4mm. NOTE: this is a brand new products. I cannot test for bugs and issues beyond what goes on in my testing. While I did not find any issues whatsoever, you may find otherwise. If you are squeamish about such things, wait for early adopters to buy it and put it through its paces. It has a proprietary end on it so its not like there will be a universal adapter for it (I think its part of how it has its dual mode setup). When i had Violectric v280 it sounded nothing spectacular single ended, but going balanced improved soundstage width, depth dramatically as well as resolution.

This is a review and detailed measurements of the Topping A30Pro balanced input and output headphone amplifier and pre-amp. It was kindly sent to me by the company. I am sorry but I don't have release date or pricing. I usually only get finished products from Topping so expect release date to be soon (post Chinese new year). Is this a new amp? Indeed there really doesn't seem to be much info about it, I just learned about 'Topping' recently and am thinking about getting an A30, from the specs & price, looks interesting; http://www.head-fi.org/t/843011/best-cheap-upgrade-from-aune-t1-schiit-magni-1-for-hifiman-400i-topping-d3-or-a30 Furthermore, in the case of an RCA use with several devices, a GND/LIFT switch allows to cancel the noise that can be generated by ground loops. The LIFT position allows you to use the ground of the connected equipment instead of the A30 Pro.The Magnius’ front fascia only has an input selection button and a gain button. These buttons are slightly more confusing in real-life use though since it’s a bit hard for me to memorize what a depressed button means, compared to the toggle switches on the A30 Pro that point to the state of the A30 Pro at that point in time. With both amplifiers employing technologies with a similar goal, they have the same distortion numbers as low as 0.00006%. When powered down, the A30 Pro passes the input signal directly through to RCA or TRS without applying amplification. This allows you to connect active monitors to the A30 Pro and get the benefits of an outboard DAC without introducing another amp into the chain. Three-step gain switch
