When the foundation arrived in the post, I ripped straight into it, ready to get on Jung Saem Mool’s radiance train. She has, after all, been leading the way of the glowing, transparent skin crew in Korea for over two decades. After a month of continual use, I’m ready to review her Essential Star-cealer Foundation. Bamboo sap to replace water for a moisturizing effect, green tea, camellia oil and arbutin for radiance and an anti-aging effect. So unfortunately, this is its big flaw. You have to exfoliate and moisturize very well before using it, otherwise, it really emphasizes your dry skin areas! With my tretinoine, that makes me peel on occasion, it’s a bit of a problem 😅 The concealer is harder in texture. I usually prefer more creamy concealers, but JSM claims the differing consistencies help the wear time, and this actually seems to have worked out true. I’ve been blending the concealer with a tiny spot of foundation on the mixing palette area in the compact, because I do find it too hard texture to go in with alone. I’ve then been patting in the product with my finger to avoid dragging on my skin, particularly under my eyes.There are actually two versions of this product- the regular, and the Illuminous version. JSM Beauty sent me the regular, in line with my skin type of normal/combination. Here they break down the differences: Photo taken from jsmbeauty.com About the shade I’m wearing, to give you an indication, I am a shade NC15-20 with MAC, I have fair skin with a rather neutral undertone. With most cushion brands, I use shade 21 or 22 if it’s available. I also sometimes use shade 23 if shade 21 has a pink undertone (I don’t like it on me) and it usually goes on better. You can feel it a bit, depending on how much you’ve used. It’s pretty comfortable and moisturizing though. I’ve mentioned the number of shades in the range for each of the cushions I’m showing you, but I’d rather warn you right away: it’s very light. Some of them have a wider range of shades, but unfortunately, the darker shades are not available in all markets. It really depends where you live. The compact of the Layering Cover Cushion is bigger than the one from the Neo Matte, so it doesn’t fit. It’s pretty light, especially considering its coverage. It’s also pretty hydrating and comfortable. Ideally, I like my cushion to blur my pores or at least not make them more visible, it’s always better!The brand talks about a slightly satin finish, but for me, it’s more of a semi-matte one. It’s natural, very pretty.
