It’s a complete mystery to me how people seem to think that I have a sound,” he says. “I just work on instincts. It’s uncanny how people can be listening to a song that I produced or worked on, and they say, ‘That’s Alan Parsons.’ I’m baffled by that. I don’t set out to make myself sound like myself.”

Legacy Recordings, the catalogue division of Sony Music Entertainment, celebrated the 35th anniversary of Eye in the Sky with the worldwide release of a definitive deluxe collector's box set, featuring rare and unreleased material, on 17 November 2017. In 1998, Parsons became vice president of EMI Studios Group, including the Abbey Road Studios. He soon left the post, deciding to return to more creative endeavours. Parsons remained as a creative consultant and associate producer for the group. A few years ago, when Alan Parsons released what was being hinted as his final studio album, The Secret, I must admit that upon my first few listens I was underwhelmed. By no means was this late career offering “bad” or even “mediocre”. It just didn’t resonate with me the same way as those classic 70s and 80s Alan Parsons Project albums do, which is an unfair judgement considering one half of the Project, and their primary songwriter/vocalist at that, Eric Woolfson, is no longer with us. Hence why while the musical and recording practices of the Project remain alive and well, the moniker does not. This is purely Parsons’s vision.Gail Arnold (26 July 2018). "Alan and Lisa Parsons Host Launch Party for New Studio". The Santa Barbara Independent . Retrieved 25 August 2020. Mark Mikel handled lead vocals on the ballad 'Obstacles.' The song's most interesting facet was how much Mikel sounded like APP's David Paton. At least this one sounded like an Alan Parson song; albeit not a very good one. The series, narrated by Billy Bob Thornton, gives detailed tutorials on virtually every aspect of the sound recording process. [14]

Alan Parsons OBE (born 20 December 1948) [2] is an English audio engineer, songwriter, musician and record producer. The album title From the New World among other things was influenced by Antonín Dvořák's famous Symphony No. 9 in E minor (a favourite of Parsons' dad), and the beautiful, orchestral, self sung, melancholic, almost sentimental "Goin' Home" is based on one of its countless legendary tunes. Honigmann, David (10 May 2021). "Year of the Cat — the long, slow evolution of Al Stewart's best-known song". Financial Times . Retrieved 4 August 2022. All in all, From the New World, apart from the cheap cover artwork, is a nice late addition to the canon of this 73-years old gentleman, whose right hand I once had the great pleasure to shake after a show here in Hamburg in 2004, when he tirelessly wrote autographs, until everybody was satisfied. The Secret" (nobody knows, why it wasn't included on the album of the same name) is too long and suffers from utterly boring drums, but nevertheless it's got a certain The Beatles charm (hey, John Lennon!). On 19 July 2018, Parsons and engineer Noah Bruskin opened a new recording studio, ParSonics. ParSonics was used in the recording of Alan Parsons’ most recent album The Secret. [18] [19] The different singers throughout are not distracting, and it would seem that Parsons has very carefully chosen what songs fit the vocalist. However, the best vocals on the album, however, come from Parsons himself. “Don’t Fade Now” features his vulnerable vocals and is the high point of the album, and one of the best songs he has ever created. As good as the guests are, one cannot help but wish that Parsons sang lead more often. It is a brilliant song, lyrically and musically. The song, like much of the album, centres on viewing the past, and one’s place in the present. During 2010, several media reports [15] [16] (one of which included a quote from a representative of Parsons), [17] alleged that the song " Need You Now" by country music group Lady Antebellum used the melody and arrangement of " Eye in the Sky". Opener "Fare Thee Well" is a moving homage to Parsons' former musical partner Eric Woolfson in The Alan Parsons Project, who passed away in 2009. Great lyrics, but unfortunately a bland chorus and an unnerving saxophone solo.
