Description

All of the switches in this classification are considered “clones” since they mirror the design of the Cherry MX switch and use the same descriptive names where the colors represent the actuation type and spring force. Supposedly, they have the same exact build and sound, but the switch is a bit lighter so it will accommodate a lighter keystroke better.

Gateron switches are popular around the world for their durability and distinct tactile and sonic characteristics. We offer the Gateron Optical switches, which have a much smoother press than traditional Gateron switches and have a longer lifespan of 100 million keystrokes. The extra durability of Cherry MX switches is nice, but if you’re looking for the best feel and sound, you can’t beat Gateron linear switches. With many switches having a lifespan of up to 50 million keystrokes, they’ll last a long time. This is one of the advantages of Gateron. In comparison to Kailhs, they are built to take a lot of hits, whether you’re typing or gaming. – Key Activation Force The Gateron Yellow switch. Similar to the Red linear Gateron switch, the Yellow requires slightly lighter pressure at 5g more actuation force of 50g. Also a fast response and quiet switch without a tactile bump suitable for gaming. With faster response on each keystroke, typing, gaming, and other functions are worthwhile. It’s also worth noting that the Kailh imitation of Cherry is somewhat off the mark. They have a scratchy feel and might make your functions seem a bit too labored.

For instance, the Red and Yellow switches give off a great gaming experience. They can take a lot of pressure and are known to last longer than typical switches. Regardless of the type of Gateron switch, you can rest assured that you will get a 50 million keystroke lifespan for each switch. Gateron is known to have some of the smoothest keystrokes on the market. Activation Point – this indicates at which point the switch is pressed down hard enough to translate information from keyboard to computer. Most switches will have an actuation point of around 2mm unless the switch is low-profile, in which case the activation point is shorter. This pressure point is measured in millimeters (mm). This is a great factor, especially if you’re heavy-handed while typing or gaming. Such force needs to be tamed by a spring to protect your switches. With heavier springs, you have the ideal support and resistance for your fingers. This means you can slam them down at will or bottom out entire keycaps. The main difference between Kailh and Gateron Switches is, Gateron is a lot more durable, shows a lot faster actuation force, while Kailh is more tactile. Getting a clear picture of an ideal switch for you is further boosted by the information below: – Tactility On the flip side, Kailhs sport innovative improvements adapted from Cherry switches. It’s a clone that will serve a lot of needs. Most users argue that it’s a better fit for those who do a lot of typing, but it does hold its own for gaming, too.
