Non-Verbal reasoning tests indicate the potential ability and future academic results your child is likely to achieve. Verbal Reasoning tests your child’s understanding and knowledge of the language. The larger your child’s vocabulary, the better they will do in these tests.

The maths exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills. The paper may include questions on number, measurement, geometry, algebra and statistics. The following practice papers will provide useful preparation for the Whitgift School 13+ standard entry Science paper: Stage One: ISEB online test in English, maths, verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning (November/December 2023)AHS is a designated Eco school, therefore, environmental awareness is actively fostered within its diverse, inclusive and vibrant community. Our recommendations to help your child prepare for the Wycombe Abbey 13 plus entrance examination can be found below. The awards are subject to regular review, taking into account your daughter’s progress and conduct. First week in June for the majority of schools using ISEB papers. (There are also ISEB papers set in January and November, but the usage of these is less common). Most public schools use 13+ exams to help them select students. These exams are typically around an hour in length, with all pupils sitting papers in Mathematics, English and Science. Many schools also require students to sit papers in Science, Verbal/Non-Verbal Reasoning, and a paper from one or more options from ancient/modern Languages and the Humanities. The first thing to ask is whether the school is setting their own paper, or using the Common Entrance (CE) papers set by the Independent Schools Examination Board (ISEB). Schools using their own exams tend to be more prestigious, and so these exams are normally of a higher difficulty level. With many more applicants than the limited places available, the pass mark will vary from year to year with these schools. Schools will sometimes publish specimen papers, but this is by no means a universal practice.

When are 13 Plus exams?

The 13+ English paper consists of a range of topics designed to test your child’s understanding of prose and poetry, as well as reading on both practical and descriptive/imaginative text.

OHS’ Open Events provide prospective students with an insight into the school’s extensive offering. The events’ programme comprises guided tours, informal meetings with staff and a presentation from the Head, familiarising visiting families with the school’s ethos and philosophy. Details on how to book are available here . Drama award applicants are assessed on the basis of audition and interview. Music award applicants will also be asked to attend an audition, as well as an interview to discuss their musical interests and experience. Least Common Denominator (LCD) then rewrite all fractions in the equation as equivalent fractions using the LCD as the denominator. When all denominators are alike, simply add or subtract the numerators and place the result over the common denominator. The resulting fraction can be simplified to lowest terms or written as a mixed number. For 13+ applicants, the admissions process includes two exams. The Stage 1 exam takes place in October of Year 7 and consists of an online test, examining Reasoning skills. Encouraging creative expression is also one of the school’s top priorities. AHS offers a rich selection of performing arts activities, promoting girls’ cultural and artistic growth by urging their participation in various annual productions and concerts. [ 2 ]
