Description

As previously mentioned, our Wood Stains are water-based so can be diluted to achieve a lighter shade, or you can mix our Natural Oak and Dark Oak Wood Stains together until you achieve the colour you desire. Test the Oak Wood Stain First If you decide to condition the wood, remember to use a product compatible with the stain you intend to use. For example, if you plan to stain with an oil-based stain from the Minwax brand, the conditioner should equally be oil-based and a Minwax product. How to stain oak wood Grey wood stain gives wood a naturally aged or rustic look. It’s great for a beach house, lake house, or farmhouse aesthetic. If you compare the oak stained with Weathered Oak to that just rubbed with walrus oil (pretty close to raw wood look), you can see that weathered oak slightly deepens the color of the wood and increases the contrast between the lightest and darkest parts of the wood grain.

You do not have to seal stained wood. However, applying a sealant will make the underlying wood more durable and easier to clean.

Update the hardware: Swapping outdated hardware with sleek, modern options can give your oak furniture or cabinets an instant modern update. Oak furniture or cabinets may look outdated and no longer fit into current design trends, which can be a reason to give them a modern look. Unlike oil-based stains, this water-based product, which is formulated for fine woods used to make furniture, doesn't emit smelly fumes, so you can apply it indoors without worry. It applies very easily. Just sand away any prior stains, sealers, or paints, and use a brush or rag to apply an even coat of stain to the wood—no need to first apply a wood conditioner, as is often recommended before using an oil-based stain. Wipe away excess color, and let the stain dry for 30 minutes to an hour. While you can achieve soft color with one coat, you'll get the best results with two or three, and unlike many other water-based stains, this one won't raise the grain of the wood, which means you don't have to keep sanding between coats. Finish by applying a clear sealer to protect your project.

Buy our Tester Kit that includes 9 colours of Wood Stain that we do(15ml Tester Pots in Slate, Warm Graphite or Grey are not included in the Tester Kit). A Medium Oak Wood Stain is known to have a lighter natural brown undertone to it. Although we don’t have a Medium Oak Wood Stain in our range, we would recommend our Natural Oak Wood Stain as a great alternative. In addition, this product is versatile and suitable for various interior staining projects, such as hardwood floors, wood furniture, cabinets, doors, and more. See Latest Price

Using a darker stain: The most straightforward way to darken oak wood is to use a darker-colored product. Dark walnut, ebony, and espresso are popular for creating a darker finish.
