Probably the first thing to note is that this book is gritty realism at its best and that includes swearing and violence. If this isn't something you particularly like then maybe this isn't the book for you. Having said that, it's not something that bothers me and I think it adds to the realism of the characters and setting. It is true to life, I think. This book is how I picture how the East End was in the 70s, 80s and 90s. The language used in the book is true to life and there is no holds barred. I especially loved the relationship between Maureen and her mother-in-law, Ethel. Ethel was written as a stereotypical East End nan - racist, crass and not afraid to speak her mind. One thing he knows he needs to find a woman who has the ability to take on his daughter, Shay, be a mother to her and a wife to him. That would not be to hard with his good looks, but he has trouble keeping his pants on and other women have been known to take care of him in ways others can only dream of. Then along comes a family that stand and face the Bond family head on, will Kenny do what’s required to protect his family at all costs? It is a story about Relationships, secrets, lies betrayal and plenty of grit. Which I highly recommend giving it 5 massive stars.

Iki dabar nebuvau skaičiusi dar nei vienos šios autorės knygos. Nusprendžiau, jog dabar yra tinkamas metas pažinčiai. Tikrai sudomino šio psichologinio trilerio anotacija, tad nieko nelaukdama ėmiau skaityti 📖 Brilliantly crafted, terrifying and authentic, Kimberley Chambers’ The Family Man is a dark and disturbing gangland thriller from the queen of the genre.Chambers was an extremely smart and gifted student in primary and secondary school. Her best subject was English. For reasons unknown, Chambers grades began to plummet. When she was eleven, she states that “things began to deteriorate.” After a few years, her academic life became so stark that she decided to leave her secondary school. If you loved the Mitchell’s and the butlers, wait til you meet the bonds. I seriously can’t wait to see what they bring us next.

Kimberley Chambers on her explosive new thriller, Life of Crime". killerreads.com . Retrieved 11 June 2018. After a stretch inside Jason wants to pull off just one last job, the biggest of all, it could solve all of their problems. But this is a game that could cost them everything . .

Early Life

Our bookworms are adding upcoming Kimberley Chambers books 2022 as soon as they're announced, giving you less searching and more reading time. Dragged up on a council estate, Jason Rampling was determined to change his lot. Jason’s a chancer, shameless with his good looks and his gift for earning a few quid. Life is easy when the money rolls in. The protagonist, Jason, is the man living the life of crime. He is dodgy from the beginning and the tale follows as he gets involved in deeper crimes, no thanks to his inability to “keep it in his trousers”, have unfavourable friends and a terrible mother who has allowed Jason’s brothers and sister to fall into similar difficult situations. Wanting to give Jason a good slap and seeing to, it was no surprise when it is revealed that he intends to use Melissa as a means of providing a mother-figure to his daughter, Shay. Mel is in a similar situation – also a single mother – and feels Jason can fulfil the role missing from her son’s life. Plot development was predictable and obvious and, at times, a little cringe-worthy. The awkwardness of reading how Melissa’s wedding day occurred was awful and she also needed a good shake to make her realise how naive and stupid she was being. There is no candyfloss and unicorns when it comes to rephrasing the hard parts for sensitive ears and eyes. Chambers does her gangland in a brassy, gritty and unforgiving way. No such thing as easing your way in or a romantic interlude - more like wham bam thank you mam. Put your big girl/boy panties on and pull 'em up yourself. Trigger warnings are for the faint of heart, then again I'm not a fan of those myself.

I don't usually books of this kind of genre. It's like a fictional biography of an East End mum and her family. I'm glad I took a punt on it because it was a fantastic read (but very gritty and hard hitting) and I couldn't put it down. Some may view crime thrillers as lowbrow compared to a lot of high-brow, anal retentive literature. The difference being that people actually love reading Kimberley Chambers work as she knows how to entertain, keep a reader, and not bore them to death. Chambers gives you a rollercoaster ride of a thriller that is gripping, breath-taking and a guide to the low life of Essex. I would probably say this was more of a gritty family saga where the Butlers and Mitchells were a gritty crime gangster series and its good to do something fresh. This is the kind of book where you will have a love-hate relationship with all the characters. The characters were somewhat flawed and yet were totally right based on their situations. I hated them for what they did, but couldn't blame them for their behavior. This made the whole reading experience so real. Thank you to @randomthingstours for the slot on the tour and @harpercollinsuk for the beautiful copy of the book. I thoroughly enjoyed it 🥰

Yes they are evil little brats and I’m used to KC psychopathic characters but at the same time some of their exploits made even me feel a bit uncomfortable and apprehensive. This book annoyed me. For several reasons, I was relieved once I had finally reached the Epilogue and, whilst the ending surprised me, I was too far gone with my judgement to award this novel anything more than three stars. Allow me to explain… I was in ICU for 3 days and moved onto a high dependency ward. On day 4, unable to communicate, I signalled to the nurse to help me put in one ear pod and sync the pods and my tablet. She pressed play.
