Now, I have oily, acne-prone skin that also gets dull and dehydrated easily. I also have scars left from previous acne breakouts, so I decided to chill out with my other exfoliating products and put this simple and straightforward product to the test, instead. They're even similar in the sense that they've both included soothing botanical extracts— Tasmannia Lanceolata for The Ordinary, and Agastache Mexicana Flower for The Inkey List. Both products are even formulated at the same, optimal pH for Lactic Acid: 3.8. This is an evening serum for me. I would cleanse my face, and then use this on dry skin. After half-an-hour or so I would then pop on a moisturiser. Other key INKEY List products to help reduce facial redness include; Oat Cleansing Balm, Hyaluronic Acid Serum, Niacinamide Serum and Omega Water Cream. Our Redness Solution Routine is a 4-step complete skincare routine to visibly reduce the appearance of redness and soothe skin that feels irritated.

When introducing a new active to the skin, some people may experience pimples or ‘purging’. For more information around purging, please refer to our latest blog post. The Inkey List Hyaluronic Acid Serum is also vegan, cruelty free and completely clean. However, the main difference is the inclusion of Matrixyl instead of Vitamin B5. Matrixyl cleverly mimics the behaviour of our body’s own naturally occurring cell-signalers and regulators (called matrikines), thus stimulating the growth of new collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. In case that was too much scientific jargon, essentially it is a fantastic anti-aging ingredient.

Furthermore, azelaic acid continues to take care of your skin even after your acne is gone and it can significantly minimize remaining spots of hyperpigmentation as well as post-inflammatory erythema, both caused by acne. Both formulas also contain other beneficial ingredients beyond just Glycolic Acid, which makes for a more interesting comparison (albeit much less straightforward). The Inkey List's additionally includes 5% Witch Hazel, famed for its ability to minimize excess oil, whereas The Ordinary's contains a trio of soothing anti-inflammatories: Aloe, Ginseng, and Tasmannia Lanceolata extracts. I personally saw better results from the FaceTheory serum. Everyone’s skin reacts differently to different products. You may see excellent results from this and nothing from the FaceTheory. I feel The Inkey List really do make some excellent products, so it’s always worth giving this a try if you concerns are redness, texture issues or mild breakouts. I wouldn’t not recommend it, but I think personally I’d suggest the FaceTheory serum over this one. Brands Product Description Formulation: Though typically available as a serum, you can also find it in cleansers, face masks, creams and gels. A serum that markets itself as a redness relief/reducing and skin calming serum. It targets, unsurprisingly, skin redness and irritation.

As with any skincare product, you want to ensure you're getting your money's worth. With serums and toning solutions, a good way to do this is by figuring out how much of the active ingredient you're actually getting in each bottle (because it certainly won't be 100%!). In this instance, The Ordinary's Glycolic Acid Toning Solution contains 7% Glycolic Acid, whereas The Inkey List's Glycolic Acid Toner contains 10%. Both fall inside the 'ideal' range of 5-10% (since AHAs are really rather potent, and overexfoliation is never fun), but The Inkey List's is clearly more concentrated. Sooo... case closed, then? Not quite. Dr. Ronda Farah is a board-certified dermatologist at the University of Minnesota Medical School and M Health Fairview. Allantoin: A super common soothing agent in skincare products, allantoin can be found naturally in the roots and leaves of the comfrey plant and it can also be produced synthetically. Allantoin has softening, soothing, and wound-healing properties, making it a great ingredient for sensitized or compromised skins. HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO SEE RESULTS?For overall improvements and results in both inflammation and redness, with consistent use, it can take from 4 weeks to 3 months with more persistent concerns. No, you don’t need to add products into your skincare routine simply because someone raves about them.Dr. Aaron Secrest is a board-certified dermatologist and assistant professor of dermatology at the University of Utah. A complete skincare routine to help reduce the appearance of redness, giving the skin a more even complexion. Instantly soothes and calms skin that feels irritated. I HAVE ROSACEA, CAN I USE THIS?Yes, Redness Relief Solution with 10% Azelaic Acidis also suitable for those with Rosacea-Prone skin. Other Occasions & Loved Ones Gift Guides All Other Occasions & Loved Ones For Teens For Grandparents For Bridal Shower For New Parents For Any Occasion Mili Godio is an editor at Select who has written a variety of skin care stories, including treatments for cystic acne, keratosis pilaris and dark under-eye circles. For this article, Godio spoke to eight dermatologists about how azelaic acid works and highlighted their recommendations for the best azelaic acid products to consider.

select All kids 6 months and older should be wearing sunscreen — regardless of skin tone Who should use azelaic acid — and who should avoid it?Now, to the comparison! Both products contain 10% Azelaic Acid (a fairly typical concentration), and both are primarily intended for the treatment of redness and an uneven complexion. Beyond the active ingredient itself, The Ordinary's Azelaic Acid Suspension 10% doesn't have too much to boast about. Tocopherol is a nice addition (with potent anti-inflammatory benefits), but the rest of the formula purely serves as a solution to suspend the Azelaic Acid in. Azelaic acid can diminish the appearance of skin blemishes, help fade post-acne redness, pigmentation, and other discoloration, refine the skin’s surface, and reveal a brighter and more even complexion, among other actions. Our Redness Relief Solution with 10% Azelaic Acid can be used by everyone whose skin needs a little TLC, all ages, all skin types and tones. It is also suitable for people prone to Rosacea*, but avoid putting on open flare ups and we would always recommend patch testing and consulting with a dermatologist or your GP if you suffer from these conditions.
