MSI’s Gaming X Trio has proven itself to be quite the GPU model as it ran cool and quiet on both AMD and NVIDIA cards. Whether you used a 200W or a 350W card, it could handle it. This is what casts the MSI GeForce RTX 3070 Ti Suprim X in a good light, even before reviewing it. There's still the question of whether 8GB of memory is enough. These days, we'd say it's sufficient for any game you want to play, but there are definitely instances where you'll run into memory capacity issues. Not surprisingly, many of those come in games promoted by AMD, it's almost like AMD has convinced developers to target 12GB or 16GB of VRAM at maximum quality settings. But a few judicious tweaks to settings (like dropping texture quality a notch) will generally suffice. While gaming with the default BIOS, the card does get a bit loud at 2000 RPM and noise levels of almost 40 dBA. The temperatures stay at a cool 68°C. Not bad.

TUF Gaming GeForce RTX™ 3070

This cooler redesign may be essential to the internal overhaul. With a slightly tougher job keeping the RTX 3070 Ti's components cool, the card ends up reaching higher temperatures under load than I had expected: 75°C on average across three runs of Metro: Exodus at 4K. Let's start at 4K, which is a bit more of a reach for the RTX 3070 Ti than say the RTX 3080, yet most definitely within its wheelhouse. That's also two more RT Cores than the RTX 3070, although those don't count for a whole lot in ray-traced performance. The two perform near-enough identically in the DXR Feature Test. Generally, 4K gaming enjoys memory bandwidth, and comparatively the RTX 3070 Ti has that in swathes versus the RTX 3070 or GeForce RTX 3060 Ti. It's a card more naturally inclined to the demanding Ultra HD resolution, but importantly it's also able to offer a little more bandwidth than the RX 6800—608GB/s to 512GB/s—and that sees both cards competing within a frame or two of each other within many of our benchmarks.

While gaming, this RTX 3070 Ti managed to boost up to 1980 MHz but averaged around 1920-1930 MHz. Not bad at all, considering that’s 8% faster than the reference design. The Suprim X is MSI’s flagship, so, in theory, it should be better than the Gaming X Trio, but at a heftier price. The design of this card is simple and light, weighing only around 1200 grams. Even so, it’s still pretty long and wide. The Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3070 Ti Gaming OC is our choice for the Best Value card. Sure, it isn’t faster nor cooler than the Palit or MSI cards, but you’ll get similar performance at a much better price. If you want a graphics card made using the highest quality materials, MSI’s Suprim X is the right choice. The entire shroud surrounding the PCB is made of high-quality aluminum, which is always nice to see. Metal dissipates heat while plastic traps it.This is where the Suprim X dominates its competition.
