Description

With a Stanley knife, carefully remove the old tip. Be careful not to cut into the brass ferrule in any way. There will be some of the old cue tip and glue still on the ferrule, carefully cut this excess away. Using the flat of the blade against the ferrule, rotate the cue around shaving off the excess glue. This will make the ferrule flat. It is vital both the tip and ferrule are perfectly flat before gluing. These tips, like the Regency, when trimmed, don’t end up in an odd shape, as some tips SnookerZone has tried can end up in an odd shape, but the Elk Pros, the Adr calf-skin tip, and the Regencies keep their shape very well when trimmed down! You’d be surprised at how a tip can go into an odd shape when shaved!

CC Pro-X (Selected Premium Leather + Innovative Adhesive + Advanced Craftsmanship + Scientific Testing + Insights from Professional Players) Therefore, you need to have a perfectly accurate cueing action to avoid this, something even some professionals struggle with! We liked the responsiveness of a G5. Definitely has a bite to it when it comes to generating spin. Frustratingly, at times, the high responsiveness led to us being slightly out of position on breaks on occasions. Was it a sign we’re improving on how we strike through the ball, or due to the reaction on the tip? Both I’d say. That’s because Kamui tips use high quality 100% pig skin vegetable-tanned leather. This gives much more elasticity than you might typically expect, as well as more durability. Approximately 70/80% of players currently on the professional WPBSA snooker tour now use Century Pro Cue Tips! We recommend Elk Master Tips for most players and Century Pro for players competing more seriously and where price isn’t a barrier. What snooker tip does Ronnie O’Sullivan use?

However, we tried and used both Russian Magic chalk and Master chalk and found that Master held on a G5 slightly better than Russian Magic (surprisingly). 2018 World Champion Mark Williams personally requested a G5 to suit his game… These new tips are the world’s first hand graded custom snooker cue tip. When buying new tips it has always been a problem to get the same hardness and consistency as the old tip. Do you press it, do you wait for it to play in and will it even play the same are standard issues. When you last bought a new snooker cue, there’s a decent chance the tip on it was an Elk Master. Well-known in the game, many cue makers choose to add Elk Master (or just ‘Elks’ as they’re often referred to) tips to their cues. Following on from R/D we have carried out with The University Of Sheffield. We have discovered that applying too much chalk reduces friction. So we advise to only apply very light amounts to your tip every two to three shots to gain maximum cue ball grip as well as keeping the table clean.

CC brand extends its gratitude for your support. We will continue to innovate and bring forth more exciting products to the world of billiards. Let’s embrace a new era of billiards competitions together and explore the possibilities of the future! When you play with a G5 you will know where that extra hardness comes from, as it is solid and sturdy when striking the cue ball. A lovely sound on impact! That’s because they have two big things going for them. Firstly, they are very good quality, the kind of level that suit all players (even Ronnie O’Sullivan has said he uses Elk Master tips!). Rhys here from Cue News, and I opted to test out the Century Pro G2 cue tip as it is the midway point between hard and soft. It would be the ideal starting point from which I could gauge the quality of the tips in general and a recommended starting point for beginners who have not yet cemented a playing style. Specifications To get the perfect snooker cue tip you need to start with a high quality tip at a size that suits your style of play (or slightly larger so you can trim to the correct size).

About

Many snooker cue tips today are available in a variety of grades; typically, soft, medium and hard. However, within each of these categories it is common for tip characteristics to vary greatly, which inevitably leads to them all playing differently. In other words, buying the same grade does not ensure the same playing experience. Century Pro Cue Tips are different. As pioneers in our field, w e are the first company worldwide to implement a unique scientific manufacturing process, designed to test and grade cuesport tips. Every Century Pro Cue Tip is therefore guaranteed to provide a consistent playing experience. Sporting standards are continually improving as advances in training, technique and application are developed and introduced. However, unless the equipment used keeps pace with these changes, progress becomes impaired or even stops. Snooker is no exception. Brass has been the material of choice for snooker cue ferrules for over a century, yet it is far from ideal. Due to the relative softness of brass, every retip reduces the diameter of the ferrule and compromises its shape. Even a light polish at the end of the job will remove material. This inevitably changes the way the cue feels and plays, making consistency impossible to achieve. Imagine a ferrule where this cannot happen. A ferrule that retains its structural integrity for life no matter how many times you retip. That ferrule is the Century Pro Ti-F. After ~60 minutes your tip should be ready to cut and shape. We recommend a Stanley knife with a new blade to trim your tip. Any overlay (such as when a 10mm tip is placed on a 9mm ferrule) can be trimmed by carefully paring the excess by slicing the tip in line with the cue but always away from the ferrule. Turn your cue upside down to do this process, tip pressing against a perfectly flat surface. Once finished you will have the tip sitting flush to the ferrule. We recommend a 1-inch wide, flat, fine file to shape the tip and make sure that you only ever shape in a downward motion. Never shape upwards or you will disturb the fibres and ruin the tip. Once the desired shape is achieved we use Century Pro Burnishing Wax to burnish the side-walls of the tip. This strengthens the side-walls and minimises side-wall fibre breakouts. We do this by starting with 1500 grit (Wet & Dry paper, always dry) cut into 5mm wide strips. Mask the ferrule and carefully apply a small amount of wax to the sides of the tip. With 1500 wet & dry, carefully rub around the sides of the tip. Once completed do this again but use 2000 grit, then 2500 grit and finish with 3000 grit. You will see that the sides of the tip now look very dark and highly polished. Should your tip require a further re-shape, tap the surface of your the tip with your file. Your tip is now finished and ready to use. N.B. Never use sandpaper or anything else other than a fine file to tap and shape your tip. Choosing the best snooker cue tips isn’t always an easy task. It’s often a case of trial and error but we hope this guide has helped point you in the right direction. While it’s certainly possible to play snooker with a 8mm tip, most people would find it is too small and their game suffers as a result.

Maintenance of the tip was not really required. The only thing I did was to use a scuffing tool to loosen up the surface a bit so that it could hold the chalk better. But to be honest, I didn’t actually have an issue with the way it was holding chalk. Verdict Here’s a few other common questions we are asked about snooker cue tips. Which snooker cue tip is best? He did this using the same G5 over a year long period; it is difficult to argue with these results. There are now more than ten professionals using the G5 including Shaun Murphy and Stephen Maguire. We have now decided to make this tip available for everyone to use, though they will be in very limited quantities made per year. It’s the fact that this is a new brand of “super” tip which is extra-firm and will last double longer than an ordinary hard tip.Ronnie O’Sullivan has said before that he uses Elk Master cue tips, the same brand that we recommend as the best snooker cue tip. A larger cue tip has more surface area and is more forgiving of bad cueing, but it will be more difficult to add spin to the cue ball. How often do snooker players change their cue tips? Our Mission is to challenge the status quo and propel the billiards industry forward. Through the launch of innovative products, we are dedicated to providing professional players with the ultimate tools for competition, enabling them to stand out and realize their dreams on the billiards table. We have full confidence in CC Pro-X. This innovative product is set to become the top choice for professional players, helping them elevate their performance in billiards matches. We look forward to witnessing professional players showcase higher levels of skill and captivating performances in their games. Given most pros use a tip around 9.5mm to 10mm, an 8mm tip is best reserved for practicing positional play, due to the ease at which you can gain reaction from the cue ball. Which cue tip size is best? As a rough guide, you should be monitoring your cue tip and considering changing it after 80-150 hours of play.
