The cattiness of the women were sooo annoying, like can’t women just support each other and get along for god sakes. The main character, Whitney, is insufferable and not a good cop, she arrested the first suspect she talked to bc he had porn on his computer and used an escort service. There is a lot of resistance mainly coming from Whitney. She eventually makes a somewhat hasty arrest and she gives a press conference only for it to blow up in her face when another murder happens. As with the previous novels I find Ms. Rigby's characters to ring true. Their relationships and behaviors are believable, as is their dialog. Actions of the police are interesting and believable as well. The main characters are likeable, their relationships and interactions interesting. Ms. Rigby's writing is crisp, well-paced, well researched, and enjoyable. I look forward to future installments and developments in this well written police procedural series.

Things heat up too much when the killer goes after, Whitney’s daughter, Tiffany, a university student at the college. Throughout the book there appears to be a theme of "Secrets". Personal and professional secrets. Secrets that affect relationships and trust; provide fodder for disputes, alter plans, and leverage for occasional disruptive behavior.Wouldn't there have needed to be a bit more of an argument, with him being a bit more persuasive? And is it really likely that an academic with no police experience whatsoever would almost immediately be taken on as an unpaid advisor and given access to all the case details? I don't know, I don't really have any police or legal knowledge either. So perhaps it would. But if I'd been arrested as part of this investigation, I'd like to think that my solicitor would try and challenge it in court. They made Georgina an uptight bitch and her bf is a POS tbh he is a terrible partner and just seems to be not a nice man even before she got him cheating. He was a jerk to her almost constantly. Her aunt has been fostering the girl and they can tell that she is intelligent. Something bad happened to this girl though and she is still scared a year later of whatever it was. Clifford and Birdie will team up to find out who the girl is so that they can help her move forward, but as they get deeper into the case – they realize that she’s not the only one in danger. Also all the male cops are either assholes or super dopey. I was unaware that was the only types of men to exist.

Three gripping crime fiction thrillers featuring DCI Whitney Walker and forensic psychologist Dr Georgina Cavendish. After a teenage boy is found dead on a Lenchester train, Detective Chief Inspector Whitney Walker believes they’re being targeted by the notorious Carriage Killer, who chooses a local rail network, commits four murders, and moves on. The relationship between the two women has improved significantly since their first case together and I really enjoy how they interact with each other. Walker is still having problems with her supervisor who gives the impression that he doesn't much care for women on the job, Walker especially. A young female student from the local university body is found by lecturer Dr Georgina Cavendish Aka George. DCI Whitney Walker’s in trouble. She’s threatened with demotion if she screws up another case. So, when a killer starts murdering female students, it’s a chance to redeem herself.

After reading the previous book 0, This is book 1. This book sees the then DS Whitney Walker from book 0, fast forwarded 10 years and she is now a DCI. In this installment of the series, there has been a new death investigation that looks very similar to a series of unsolved murders some 30 or more years ago. DCI Walker, who has been helping her Superintendent with his administrative duties because of his family needs, finds she must postpone some of that work to proceed with the investigation. She also reaches out to her colleague, Dr. Cavendish, to request her assistance as consultant. Surprisingly, Walker finds George distant and evasive. George does agree to assist, but Walker is disturbed by George's behavior. The second book in the Detective Sebastian Clifford series is Speak No Evil. The book starts with Clifford deciding to limit his work as a private investigator when Detective Constable Bird asks for his help on a case. A year ago, a young girl was found abandoned on the streets and has barely spoken since. The police have been unable to trace her identity and have now given up on even trying. The social services team believes the girl has an intellectual disability, but Birdie knows better. I wanted to like this series so much! 2 ladies solving a mystery sounded like it was going to be my jam. Another murder in the (fictitious) town of Lenchester is offered us by prolific writer Sally Rigby (5 novels in a year and that without losing anything in quality or thrill-level!) A rich older woman is found dead in her bed, strangled with a pink chiffon scarf. A MO that resembles that of the never caught Lenchester strangler who was active in the 1980ies when he killed 6 women. There was a suspect but when he murdered his own wife and was put in jail for that, the investigations were suspended and the murders stopped. DCI Walker tries to get in touch with her old boss who was SIO on that case but he’s in Egypt. It’s unlikely that the original suspect has anything to do with this murder as the man is in his 80ies and suffering from dementia (but maybe less than he lets on?) It doesn’t take long before 2 other murders on rich elder ladies occur. What do the victims have in common; gardening, art, volunteer work, clubs, …?
