About this deal

With The Super Mario Bros. Movie on the horizon, 2023 could well be the most exciting year yet for the LEGO Super Mario theme. Will the LEGO Group choose to embrace the film with Mario minifigures (finally!), or will it stay the course with its interactive sets? We’ll hopefully find out soon, but for now, we’ve at least got word that a new batch of sets will arrive in January. Set name Fingers crossed the LEGO Group follows up with more affordable and accessible sets at some stage – not every adult has €500 to drop on a single product, just to get a modern taste of LEGO The Lord of the Rings. Every LEGO The Lord of the Rings set rumoured for 2023 Build and display – The Gandalf the Grey™ and Balrog™ figures both stand over 3.5 in. (9 cm) tall. Each of these collectible models comes with a baseplate for display

And last but not least, we have Arwen Undomiel and Aragorn, King of Gondor! Aragorn looks absolutely badass with his armour, and I love all the printed elements across his crown and armour. LEGO Friends will reportedly launch its biggest set to date in January, in the form of 41732 City Center. Coming in at 2,010 pieces for €159.99, it’s rumoured to sail past even 41703 Main Street Building – but for the same price tag. Colour us intrigued. Set name The Balrog looks awesome, and I love the use of trans-elements, as well as his tiny red whip! 40632 Aragorn & Arwen – 261 pieces Next year’s LEGO Icons line-up is currently slated to include two new Botanical Collection sets and a new modular building. Par for the course for the moment, but bigger surprises are surely just around the corner. Set name Following a second consecutive in-house series in January, the Collectible Minifigures theme is rumoured to be celebrating the 100th anniversary of Disney with a third batch of characters focused on the House of Mouse. Set nameThe LEGO Group’s Chinese New Year sets are now a regular feature in the annual calendar, and two more are thought to be joining the range in January. If so, they’ll replace 80108 Lunar New Year Traditions and 80109 Lunar New Year Ice Festival, both of which are retiring by the end of 2022. Set name He’s got a shortsword that isn’t Sting, but I’ll allow it to pass. Maybe the Sting mould is retired 🙁 40631 Gandalf the Grey & Balrog – 348 pieces

Here’s hoping these do really well and send a signal to LEGO that we do really want more LEGO Lord of the Rings. DOTS will apparently be embracing the Wizarding World in 2023, with at least three sets dedicated to Harry Potter. Exactly what those models will consist of remains to be seen – could they be simple accessories, like bracelets or stitch-on patches, or will they be magical message boards? Set name We’ve only got word of one LEGO Monkie Kid set for 2023 so far – courtesy of a listing at LEGO.com – but it seems likely that more will follow, if only to continue serving the LEGO Group’s growing market in China. (It helps that the sets are generally all great, too.) Set name Build and display – Frodo™ stands over 3 in. (8 cm) tall and Gollum™ stands over 1.5 in. (5 cm) tall. Each model comes with a baseplate for display A reportedly delayed flagship set (42146 Liebherr LR 13000), a new model inspired by Matt Reeves’ The Batman and a more affordable Bugatti headline the list of LEGO Technic sets currently rumoured for 2023, which run the gamut from €9.99 all the way up to €449.99. It’s shaping up to be an expensive year for Technic fans… Set nameThis is super cute, we get an adorable Gollum/Smeagol who is clutchin a fish, and Frodo Baggins who has an impressive dark green cloak, as well as an Elven Brooch. Before we find out what comes next after NINJAGO Crystalized, which wraps up the theme’s current storyline – running since 2019 –we’ve apparently got another wave of NINJAGO Core sets to come, comprised of dragons, mechs and motorbikes. Set name I am so happy that these are officially a thing. LEGO Lord of the Rings is one of my favourite modern themes of all time, so this means a whole lot to me. 40630 Frodo & Gollum – 184 pieces The focus of these sets seems to be pairs of characters that have some sort of connection to each other. I know many Lord of the Rings fans will just buy all three and be sad there are not more of their favorites, but LEGO has, in the past, oversaturated other intellectual properties, and perhaps if these sell well then we might see more in the future.

Feeling arty? How about LEGO arty? Or just… LEGO Art. The LEGO Group clearly hopes you’ll still be feeling its original theme of mosaics (and beyond) come 2023, as it’s apparently got at least one more set in the works. As 31207 Floral Art has shown us, mosaics are no longer limited to 48×48 grids, so this could genuinely be anything at this stage. Set name It sounds like LEGO Creator 3-in-1 is going all-in on animals next year, with an early list of sets including a rabbit, parrot, dogs and a unicorn. (Spot the odd one out.) 31139 Cozy House sounds pretty promising too, particularly for its hefty piece count. Set name Then we get to Aragorn, and the difference is like night and day. His hair has dimension, his cloak has dimension, and even his crown stands out proudly from his head. On top of all these features, LEGO designers gave him interesting facial hair that makes him have a stronger-than-usual jawline. His armor is a printed piece and it even extends over the front of the legs to add extra detail. A sword is also included with this character. Aragorn is most likely going to be the reason anyone will buy this set. FINAL THOUGHTSJust one LEGO DC set is thought to be on the way in 2023 so far, in the form of a product tied to Warner Bros.’ long-mooted The Flash movie. First revealed through a listing at an online retailer, the latest Batmobile will reportedly arrive on shelves a month before its source material debuts in cinemas. Set name
