Description

This is what we all wanted for many months. Great quality products that haven’t skipped corners. Instead they have made something good, great and I for one am very happy, as this is my new favourite handheld and a strong contender for the best retro handhelds of the year even when it has strong competition around. This new size, new weight and added exterior tech pumps make this feel like a far more polished handheld, and I didn’t think my favourite handheld could get even better, but ANBERNIC have really nailed it here. They’re well position, incredibly responsive and curve around the corners allowing for a good amount of touch points. Yes, it’s slightly more compact and those with very large hands might feel a bit cramped while playing, but I had no problems at all. This small size reduction makes it far more portable, and the removal of the bezels make it that little bit more immersive.

The RG353M supports expandable memory up to 256GB, giving you plenty of storage for all your favorite games. The device also features customizable themes, as well as the ability to save and load game progress, providing a personalized and convenient gaming experience. The start and select are in the same position. I know many of you like these on the face of the device but I do not, and the outdated white text doesn’t help the minimal metal aesthetic in my opinion. RG351MP (LEFT) VS RG353M (RIGHT)

Please Note

We can see from the three benchmarks; Antutu, Geekbench and 3DMark, that the RG505 sits in between the older RG552 and the over double the price of GPD XP+ Android handhelds. The Linux OS runs a combination of Emulation Station and RetroArch to provide a wealth of gaming options on many classic game’s consoles from the 1970’s to more modern day on the RG353M. The Android OS requires some setting up but ultimately provides a wider range of computers and consoles to relive the classics on. You can also go the third route by installing a custom firmware on a SD card to use on the handheld gaming console which provides over 90 classic systems to choose from!

Both models have the RK3566 Quad-Core 64 bit Cortex-A55 processor which runs up to 1.8GHz. The RG353V dual boot retro gaming console has 2GB of LPDDR4 RAM, and 32GB internal eMMC storage for the Android operating system. The RG353VS with Linux OS has 1GB of LPDDR4 RAM. With the RG353M, you can enjoy classic retro games from consoles like the NES, SNES, Gameboy, and more. The built-in emulator supports a wide range of gaming platforms, including Arcade, PlayStation, and Sega Genesis. The Anbernic RG353M handheld gaming console that delivers a powerful and immersive gaming experience. With its sleek and ergonomic design, this handheld device features a 3.5-inch IPS screen that displays crisp and vivid colors, making your games come to life like never before. The RG353V and RG353VS retro handheld emulators from Anbernic offer a choice of Android and Linux OS’s or Linux OS only. Select RETROARCH from the main menu and then either retroarch or retroarch32. These are 64-bit and 32-bit versions of the software, respectively. The available game systems are configured to use the 32-bit or 64-bit depending on which happens to work best for that system. So on paper it’s very similar to some of ANBERNIC’s recent releases such as the RG353P and RG353V just in a much more premium, comfortable form factor. The RG353M is the ultimate handheld gaming console with high performance and reliability all contained in a stylish aluminium alloy case. After several minutes of sitting idle, your handheld will start playing videos of random installed games. This is the screen-saver. To play the game currently displayed, press START. To exit the screen-saver, press one of the face buttons. Trying different cores/emulators

As part of our RG505 review we ran some system benchmarks which we can use to see how well in general the RG505 performs We can also compare with other Android devices. You can update to the latest version of the installed Retroarch cores by going to Retroarch from the main menu, then selecting Online Updater -> Update Installed Cores. Comparing these results with the RG353P and RG353V models, we can see they are all performing roughly the same as each other. However the M model does have the overall highest scores out of the RG353 range. Linux OS The 3.5” screen is a full IPS panel running at 640×480 resolution, an upgrade from the 320×240 found in its predecessor. The higher resolution means that retro games on older systems can be upscaled for improved visuals. And for the systems that run at higher resolutions, the visuals will not be squashed and make text easier to read for example. The display is protected by a Zero Distance OCA toughened glass cover. For both models of the retro handheld emulator, the Linux operating system is stored on the included 16GB micro SD card. There is a 64GB micro SD card also included which is used for game storage. When required, you can use the R1 button to bring up an on-screen keyboard. Glossary ArkOS This is the Operating System that runs on your Anbernic retro handheld device. It’s a We ran the Antutu benchmark on a loop and got 5 hours 20 mins which is a decent time. Android Overview The RG353M handheld gaming console features the RK3566 quad core Cortex-A55 CPU that runs up to 1.8GHz. There is 2GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 32GB of internal eMMC 5.1 storage for Android 11 OS. The Linux OS comes on its own 16GB card. There is a second card that is 64GB which is used for the game files storage. My first ever home console was the SEGA Mega Drive and again this works flawlessly, and because of the 4:3 display the game sits perfectly inside of the screen with bright saturated colours and nostalgic music coming from the speakers below. This is another console I found myself going to alot. With the vast options of consoles to emulate the battery life for me did vary, but from my tests and mixing with brightness and volume settings I was pulling a solid 5 hours out of this device at high brightness which is reasonable for a device of this power.

Support bui lt-in WIFI online fighting, streaming, HDMI, vibrating motor, s upport 3.5mm stereo earphones, PSP pushes the limit of what this kind of device can emulate, but these settings give you the best available experience. The RG353V and RG353VS retro gaming consoles are powered by a 3200mAh li-polymer rechargeable battery. The battery life is up to 6 hours, times will vary depending on usage. A higher demanding game will have less battery life. The RG350M retro games console is an upgraded 2020 version of the best selling RG350 released in the later half of 2019. With it comes a metal alloy case, higher resolution display and a number of improvements.
