Description

Interestingly, the recommended dosage for both Pimafix and Melafix is the same- adding 5ml of the liquid to every 10-gallon of water for at least seven consecutive days. Once this period is over, change 25% of the water and continue with the same dose for another week or two if required. API® MARINE MELAFIX fish remedy is a safe, natural fish remedy which should be used to treat bacterial infections in saltwater fish and corals. MARINE MELAFIX fish remedy contains Melaleuca (tea tree) extract to soothe and calm your fish, and rapidly repairs various fish ailments, from open sores to pop eye. It also reverses coral degradation. API MARINE MELAFIX fish remedy will not harm the biological filter in your aquarium, and may be used in all marine and reef aquariums. Many disease symptoms will be clearly visible, such as white streaks, lesions, protruding eyes, and other unusual marks or spots on your fish. If you suspect your fish has a disease, it will fall under the categories of fungal, parasitic, or bacterial. One way to diagnose is by matching fish symptoms to the description of a wide range of API fish remedies, which include treatments specific to Ich disease, Betta fish, and various common symptoms (hole-in-the-head, eye cloud, fin & tail rot, etc.).

To see how you can calculate the dosages for both treatments, you can take a look at this article for Melafix as well as this post for Pimafix. Although dropsy is a very challenging condition to treat, dosing the tank with Epsom salts and treating the fish with a broad-spectrum antibiotic, such as Melafix, can be successful, provided that you catch the problem early. Treats: 5ml treats 38 litres of water Directions: Shake well. Remove activated carbon if possible. Add 5ml per 38 litres of aquarium water. As we have already mentioned before, both these fish treatments have natural ingredients and work in a similar manner. However, Melafix is said to be more effective for bacterial infections, while Pimafix may help with bacterial and fungal infections alike. Can API ACCU-CLEAR™ water clarifier be used if I have added salt to the water in my freshwater aquarium as part of a supportive treatment for fish? During the treatment, your vet may recommend removing the carbon filters and turning off UV sterilizers and protein skimmers because UV light might hinder the effectiveness of the medication while the protein skimmers might remove the medicine particles through filtration, rendering the treatment useless [7]. Possible side effects

As we mentioned previously, dropsy is challenging to treat and next to impossible to cure. In fact, many fish keepers opt to euthanize their fish to avoid water contamination and the risk of disease outbreaks in the tank. Fish continually release ammonia directly into the water through their gills, urine, and solid waste. Uneaten food and other waste also add ammonia to the water. A natural way that your aquarium handles this ammonia is through the biological filter, or natural aquarium cycle. However, as with any natural processes, imbalances can occur. This is why it’s important to regularly test for the presence of ammonia, which can spike unexpectedly in your aquarium. As soon as it is detected, ammonia should be removed, otherwise it will damage your fish’s gill membranes and harm their respiration, which can eventually result in fish death. Even small amounts of ammonia stress fish, suppressing their immune systems and increasing the likelihood of disease outbreaks. You can remove ammonia from your tank by performing a partial water change, and by dosing with a solution specifically designed to treat ammonia. Test frequently for high ammonia using API FRESHWATER MASTER TEST KIT.

PREVENT ALGAE

Cotton-like growths in fish are caused by fungi, usually around open wounds or damaged scales and spread to the rest of the body. However, they may also affect the healthy fish living in unclean water saturated with waste and other decaying organic compounds. Large pallet items like aquariums are deemed delivered successfully with no damage once the the driver has left the property. If a report of damage is submitted after the driver has left we may be unable to assist with replacements. We recommend refusing a damaged delivery, this is the fastest resolution.
