With decorative armour, dramatic poses and some truly menacing design work I think that these are some of Games Workshop's best Space Marine style miniatures.

Much more interesting then, are the units that Dark Angels improves significantly, or work well paired with the Dark Angels. That's 20 models on the table in total. And now you can see the reason to add the meltabombs and psychic upgrades as it takes the list to a more 'rounded' points value of 770. A few points to note Armored company – Predators are Troops; Kratos are elites; Infantry can take Land Raiders and Spartans as transportsThe Dark Angels are often thought of as three armies in one, as they have a core of regular Space Marines, surrounded by fast-moving Ravenwing units, and ultra-resilient Terminator Deathwing units. This is the follow up of the audiobook The Ascension of Balthasar. Here we find our heroes fighting the hordes of the Crimson Slaughter and at the same time avenge master Zadakiel and eliminate anyone who knows about the Dark Angels secret. The Dark Angels are among the foremost Space Marines, the First Legion of old. Devastated millennia ago by a dreadful schism, the Dark Angels are constantly on the hunt for the mysterious Fallen, former brothers who have turned from the light of the immortal God-Emperor and embraced the dread powers of Chaos. Dark Vengeanceevokes that tabletop gaming feel in that it is full of some random occurrences, stuff that would happen when your dice rolls go belly up and you watch with disappointment as that pesky opponent lives through a barrage that’d otherwise kill him/it. Another way is in the step-by-step nature of the narrative, which was like watching a gamer’s strategy unfold: bike squad on the flanks here, Terminators occupied over there, devastators in cover over there, that sort of thing. Perhaps it was the fact that I explicitly knew the novella was based out of a tabletop gaming scenario and that it is a complement to the new 6th edition starter set. The movements and actions of both sides, the Dark Angels loyalists against the Chaos cultists and Traitor Astartes of the Crimson Slaughter, felt very cinematic to me in that way. And that felt good. It was a great feeling.

However, while I don’t want this style to be a one-off, I don’t want it to become too common either. The novella is the perfect length for this style I think. Gav Thorpe did something similar for his novel Purging of Kadillus, which was also about the Dark Angels, but his character viewpoints fewer and as best as I recall, he didn’t change tenses and perspectives when moving between them. That’s two instances in total I know of. But yeah, this is a unique style and it should keep its uniqueness because while C Z Dunn pulled it off brilliantly, it is easy to see how this can NOT work out, and how some people can be put off by it. The Librarian can now Deathwing Assault with the DW squad if he wishes making his termy armour upgrade such a good purhcase. The How to Play guide is for beginners, but it is actually really useful for people going from 5th edition to 6th edition. I would recommend reading it if you haven’t read the rules yet. It’s laid out in a really nice way.
