About this deal

Unless you don't care about software suport for the future and you just want a decent device for light gaming and content consumption (oh yes, everything watched on this phone looks and sounds great). Outside of the difference in network speed, the Galaxy S20 FE shares the same specs - the now-unified Snapdragon 865 processor, a 6.5-inch Super AMOLED with 120Hz refresh rate and 1080p resolution, triple camera (0.5x-1x-3x), 4,500mAh battery, microSD card slot and IP68 rating. The front-facing camera is a 32MP f/2.0 snapper, but note that if you take a regular selfie, you’re not getting a 32MP picture – that’s because this sensor is paired with a wide-angle lens. You’ll only get a high-res picture if you take a wider shot, while if it’s a close-up featuring just you, the photo will be automatically cropped.

Based on my testing for this Galaxy S20 FE review, it remains one of the best phones for the money. Samsung Galaxy S20 FE review: Price and release date Battery Capacity (Typical): Typical value tested under third-party laboratory condition. Typical value is the estimated average value considering the deviation in battery capacity among the battery samples tested under IEC 61960 standard. Rated (minimum) capacity is 4370mAh. Actual battery life may vary depending on network environment, usage patterns and other factors. Now and then, colors looked a bit too bold though, as though the scene optimization had gotten overzealous, making images look rather artificial. You can easily switch off this processing feature though.

Now that there will be no Exynos variant on sale, you will have to pay more for 5G - around €700, while the 4G model is expected to cost €630 in Germany. Since the Galaxy S20 FE’s main sensor is identical to the one found on the normal Galaxy S20, image quality in most situations remains practically unchanged. This means that the S20 FE shares its sibling’s shortcomings, most notably with occasionally artificial-looking colours and drab night shots compared to the same images taken on the iPhone 11 Moving on, three more things have changed from the original S20 models: the screen, the camera and the battery. Let’s look at the screen first. The ‘FE’ moniker here stands for ‘Fan Edition’ and it’s very much a cheaper, mid-year update for the brand’s flagship Galaxy S20 – with a bit of the Note 20’s DNA thrown in for good measure. It looks like it will continue to be sold alongside the Samsung Galaxy S21 in many regions.

In our battery rundown test, the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE lasted for 20hrs 39mins before battery levels dropped to zero, which is 11% longer when compared against the Galaxy S20’s FHD+ score and a whopping 30% longer than the Note 20 Ultra. Samsung responds to customer wishes with the Fan Edition of the S20. The result is a cheaper but still generously equipped smartphone. The 6.5-inch Full-HD+ display offers high contrast. With a 120 Hz refresh rate, it promises to run very smoothly. The high battery capacity increases run-time significantly compared to the S20 Plus. At 4,500 mAh, up to 12 hours of video streaming should be possible. New Inside and Out Change your airtime tariff after 30 days and then once every billing month during your minimum contract period, choosing from a selected family of tariffs. Some tariff extras are only available on the starting tariff, are not transferable, and may be lost if you change to an ineligible tariff. Devices are subject to availability. The 5G version of the Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset, while the 4G version uses Samsung’s own Exynos 990. Both are top-end chipsets (while there is a 865 Plus, it’s more a gaming-oriented upgrade), but we’ve found that Snapdragon 8-series processors typically outperform their Exynos counterparts. I don't see it as a deal breaker, though it would be nice to have that battery life thingy where you see what status is your batery condition.
