I've always defended writing in the contemporary romance genre because it doesn't need to be flowery and classy, in fact, it's annoying when it is. But I've probably never read a book with worse writing than this. Look at this bitch's inner monologue. Nana always told grandiose stories that wrung eye rolls from my parents. Mom never believed anything Nana said, but I think she just didn’t want to.

But one of the hard limits is trying to excuse the behavior, and that's what this book does at every turn. With some explicit violence and sexual material, the series is dark and edgy. Trigger warnings are also included. There are mentions of murder, drug abuse, and suicide in these. In this narrative, Adeline must deal with loss and trauma. The novel is engaging with strong character development and an intriguing premise. Haunting Adeline, the first book in the Cat and Mouse Duet series, is a sinister romance that examines sexual assault, retaliation, and betrayal within the family. Anyone who enjoys reading dark romance books must read this. I’m deep in my musings when my eyes snag on movement from above. Curtains flutter in the lone window at the very top of the house. Most victims in skin trade don’t get rescued at all.. What Addie went through was hard to even imagine and reading it so explicitly made me hurt for those who had to deal with it for real. Well, that was absolutely terrible :) This book was on my radar because many of my goodreads friends (<33) who had read Her Soul to Take and Her Soul for Revenge seemed to love this one too. They were both dark stalker(ish) romances with kinky smut. This book is shit though, sorry.

This book would have been so much better if it was a completely different story. Meaning, this book does not seem much like a sequel to the next book. And I believe I came out of the other side with something beautiful - a little jagged and imperfect, but beautiful all the same.My breathing is escalating further, and my heart is beating so heavily, it physically hurts as it slams against my chest. It takes what little strength I have left to keep silent. The novel is a grand saga of family, love, and tragedy, written with the author’s gift for developing engaging storylines and characters.
