Description

This lens is the lightest in its class, weighing only 1355g 1, making it easy to use handheld. It’s superbly balanced, purposely built with a small 80-degree rotation angle and new “Inner Balance Technology” 2, which minimizes the weight shift caused by zooming. Content creators will appreciate the minimal focus breathing, while the 5.5 stop optical VR 3 will help to provide smooth video and sharp stills. Primary features of the NIKKOR Z 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 VR S There are many common teleconverter combinations. We often see Kenko converters being used with Nikkor, Tamron or Sigma lenses on Nikon cameras. For many of us, Nikon TC's are reference and are then used with Nikkor glass. If you have found that a certain combinations works well, or poorly, please report that in our Lens Accessories forum as we are updating the chart from time to time. Using the FTZ on your Nikon Z-series camera This is the shortest distance between flange and sensor of any pro camera: Sony E is 18.00mm, Fuji X is 17.70mm. Canon RF is 20.00mm, LEICA M is 27.80mm, Contax G is 29.00mm, Nikon's 1950s rangefinder S-mount is 34.85mm. Canon EF is 44.00mm and Nikon F is 46.5mm, so there is always enough room for someone to machine an adapter ring to go between anything and this new Nikon Z mount. Take a look at the below comparison that we performed on the Nikon D850 with the Nikon F 35mm f/1.8G ED lens, along with the Nikon Z7 and the same lens using the FTZ adapter: Japanese, English, Olde English, Loud English, Arabic, Aramaic, Bengali, Bulgarian, Cthulhu, Chinese (Simplified, Traditional and Klingon), Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hillbilly, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Korean, Marathi, Mime, Moron, Norwegian, Persian, Pig Latin, Polish, Portuguese (Portugal and Brazil), Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Spanish, Swedish, Tamil, Telugu, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian and Vietnamese.

The secret weapon of the Nikon Z system is the mount. It is both the largest mount for any full-frame camera system and the one which is positioned closest to the sensor (shortest flange distance). This allows Nikon’s optical engineers unprecedented flexibility when designing lenses.

Nikon Z Mount Roadmap

The adapter only works properly (autofocuses) with Nikon's newest lenses, which are those with built-in AF motors ( AF-I, AF-S and AF-P). With all other lenses autofocus does not work. AF and AF‑D lenses become manual focus only. Based on CIPA Standard. This value is achieved when attached to a camera with full-frame (Nikon FX-format) sensor, with the camera’s VR function set to “NORMAL”, and when zoom is set to the maximum telephoto position. falconeyes, said "Having an AF motor in the body was a brilliant idea". Wow, I guess that is why the AF motor in the body is prevailing tech now, huh? Using a card slot or card reader, copy “MAFTZ0110.bin” to a memory card that has been formatted in the camera.

Tokina AT-X 70-200 F4 FX VCM-S (70-200mm f/4) - Issue: Shows AF error warning and can only be used in manual focus (MF) modeAdapts Canon EF lenses with often better results on my Nikon Z cameras than Nikon's own lenses give on this crappy FTZ adapter! It also works with other brands of lenses in Canon EF mount, adapting them to Nikon Z. The Mount Adapter FTZ allows you to use your favorite F-mount DSLR NIKKOR lenses on the Z system cameras. Utilize the outstanding performance and resolving power of your approx. 360 NIKKOR F-mount lenses including over 90 NIKKOR lenses that have full AF/AE compatibility. (Full AF/AE supported when using FX or DX AF-S Type G/D/E, AF-P type G/E, AF-I type D and AF-S/AF-I Teleconverters)

Multi-focusing system that utilizes two STM (stepping motors), enabling fast, precise and quiet AF operation for both stills and videos. We’ll start with Nikon-brand lenses, most of which are at least partly compatible with the FTZ adapter. Here’s where they stand. As with the original FTZ, you get full compatibility with autofocus, exposure control and optical VR (Vibration Reduction) for all of Nikon’s AF-P and AF-S lenses. Nikon says that AE (Auto Exposure) shooting is available for 360 Nikkor F-mount lenses from the older AI type onwards, and AF/AE works with 94 AF-P, AF-S and AF-I lenses.Multi-focusing system that utilizes two STMs (stepping motors), enabling fast, precise and quiet AF operation for both stills and videos. The selected focus area turns green when in focus, which works quite well. There is focus peaking and magnification, but no arrows or dots at the bottom of the finder. Pay particular attention to the angle of incidence. The greater the angle, the more flexibility that lens designers have when creating a lens. For more on why this is true, see our article on camera lens mounts explained. As you can see, the Nikon D850 with the 35mm f/1.8G measured pretty much at the same level of optical performance as the Z7 with the FTZ adapter. The former is a tad sharper, but that 1.4% difference in the center frame is likely a margin of error. The mid-frames, along with the corners yielded pretty much identical results. Although the lens we used was not as great of a sample compared to the Nikon 35mm f/1.8G ED from our detailed review (this one was Spencer’s copy that he has used heavily in the field), it still served well for this comparison. The lineup has grown substantially since then. At the time of this article’s publication, there are sixteen Z lenses available for the Nikon Z6 II, and another eleven on the roadmap for the next couple years.
