Composer Joseph LoDuca ( Xena: Warrior Princess, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys) provided Army of Scream Factory’s press materials proclaim the theatrical cut as coming from a “ new 4K restoration of the film from the negative”, and that it has been approved by Raimi, director of photography Bill Pope, and editor Bob Murawski. Given that pedigree it should be no surprise the 2160p 1.85:1 picture is often stunning, with the native 4K presentation exhibiting finer details and brighter colors than ever before. All of the early scenes in Lord Arthur’s courtyard, for example, look outstanding. The added boost of Dolby Vision/HDR10 provides a richer color palette. Film grain is intact and still looks heaviest during night scenes. Likewise, the many optical effects shots still appear rough because that’s just how it is. Still, videophile fans will be impressed by the image; it is a worthy upgrade. Factory and also Colin Trevorrow’s Jurassic World: Dominion (2022) from Universal, both in 4K Ultra HD. A horde of deadites lay siege to the Ultra HD fortress with an impressive HEVC H.265 encode that exceeds expectations and pretty much puts the previous Blu-ray release to shame. Coming from brand-new restoration and remaster of the original 35mm camera negatives, the native 4K transfer, approved by Raimi and cinematographer Bill Pope, showcases incredibly sharp details for a majority of the runtime with a few soft, blurry moments sprinkled throughout. However, most of those are associated with the optical effects, compositing and matte photography, so they are to be expected and easily forgiven. Otherwise, the individual hairs of the cast, the threading in the costumes and the tiny pebbles on the ground are discrete, and the small fractures and imperfections along the castle walls are plain to make out from a short distance. Facial complexions appear natural with an accurate peachy-rose tone in every actor and lifelike textures, revealing every pore, wrinkle and negligible blemish.

Universal mandated a happier ending rather than the original cataclysm, and while the latter is ironically funny, it’s a rare case where that choice doesn’t mangle the message or the theme. Ash delights in blasting a witch across his store’s aisles, swooning the girl in a pitifully non-epic, tepidly cliché kiss that embraces the asinine male ideal Army of Darkness built. It’s too ridiculous to be real, yet if all of Army of Darkness was a figment in Ash’s mind, the ludicrous confidence he shows fits right in. Has there ever been a better "B Movie" star than Bruce Campbell? Campbell is one of the greatest leading men (or supporting perfect for Ash and Sheila. Gearon did a great job with the designs on Army of Darkness and these characters come to life with more As Ash fights for freedom and becomes involved in a romantic lingo with the stunning Sheila (Embeth Davidtz), the fight against the villainous Return of the Living Dead III, Stepfather II: Make Room for Daddy) also aids the style of filmmaking.

NEW 2022 4K Scan Of The Original Camera Negative Approved By Director Sam Raimi, Director Of Photography Bill Pope, And Editor Bob Murawski

Darkness. Pope is one of the most gifted cinematographers in the industry and the efforts displayed on Army of Darkness help with these materials for Universal Studios. The only cut of the feature-film available with everything in 4K resolution was the theatrical cut. The four- Low-end support could use a boost via an audio refresh. It’s generally dull, even murky when peaked. The best happens during the finale as gunpowder bombs go off, producing a rumble, even if it’s a bland one. Extras isn't available in the same resolution. A 4K scan of the director's cut presentation is technically not possible. Shout Factory provides theAudio Commentary with Writer-Director Sam Raimi, Producer Robert G. Tapert, and Star Bruce Campbell audiences a taste of what would come as an action-director with Spider-Man. Raimi penned the script alongside brother Ivan Raimi While it’s true that the Evil Dead series became more and more campy over time, it felt like an organic transition. Most horror franchises tend to get more laughable as they go on, whether they’re intended to or not. Evil Dead II exists solely because of the mild bit of controversy that surrounded the original film, particularly in the UK where Sam Raimi was taken to task for it, even being brought in to testify in court for it (nothing ever came of it). Having a more comedic approach on essentially the same material is what Evil Dead II is. Army of Darkness, however, pulls out all the stops.
