About this deal

Question: I've been looking at the specs and it states 250w however the controller is set to 16A and the battery is 48v. Whereas the TSDZ2 uses a torque sensor, the Bafang uses a cadence sensor, giving the motor an on/off feel. The Bafang is much quieter, almost silent. But it’s heavier, more expensive and just as prone to technical faults. For more information, please read my Bafang vs. Tongheng comparison article. Pros and Cons Pros The option to be able to use different displays. For example, the KT-LCD3, as is the colour Bafang P850c display, is commonly used.

Another advantage to a mid drive unit is, because the kit drives the chain rather than the wheels directly, it means your gears work with the motor. So, when you are in first gear, you get the most torque which is of course when you need it. As you move up the gears the assistance becomes less pronounced.

The TSDZ2 is “torque-sensing”– if you pedal gently, you get a gentle assist; if you pedal hard, the motor works harder. This differs from the other common mid-drive kit (Bafang) which is cadence sensing – you set the assistance you want, and so long as the pedals are turning, the motor gives that flat level of assist. Because this is a mid-drive unit, the assistance is much more subtle than rear or front wheel drive units. The power is blended in much more smoothly and I imagine would be much less disconcerting to a rider not used to an e-bike. To find out the current chainline, measure the distance between the middle of the seat tube (it's also the middle of the bike) to the chainring's teeth. The Tongsheng TSDZ2 is one of the best e-bike conversion kits available, but it will not be for everyone. Installation can be challenging, and the motor may need periodic maintenance. It is an excellent option, resulting in a bike that looks and rides more like a factory-produced e-bike. Question: Would the 250w motor give a lot less noticeable performance than the 500w motor in terms of torque etc.?

As you work your way up the modes, the assistance becomes more pronounced and your battery range is reduced. I have a 10 Ah battery and I weigh about 100kg. In the TURBO mode you get a lot of assistance and I got about 18 miles range from the bike. This is dramatically increased the lower you go in the assistance modes. The TSDZ2 might not be as good, but you can buy a whole load of other upgrades for that price difference. Or, maybe, the TSDZ2 allows you to dip a toe in the electric bike world that was previously just unaffordable. Good – user serviceable and upgradeable The TongSheng TSDZ2B is the newest model that comes with a two clutch design on the main gear. Main gear disengages from the chain during riding which makes it to ride your bicycle like a mechanical one. The older version (The TSDZ2) only had one clutch design. Users are allowed to exceed the 250W for short periods of time when climimg hills and still under the 25kph. That is how the EN15194 standard is set.

Range - Since speed helps determine the range an e-bike can cover, it will take more battery power to travel at a higher speed than a lower speed. Range may also vary with the terrain, motor type, and weight of the bike.
