A440 (also known as Stuttgart pitch [1]) is the musical pitch corresponding to an audio frequency of 440 Hz, which serves as a tuning standard for the musical note of A above middle C, or A 4 in scientific pitch notation. It is standardized by the International Organization for Standardization as ISO 16. While other frequencies have been (and occasionally still are) used to tune the first A above middle C, A440 is now commonly used as a reference frequency to calibrate acoustic equipment and to tune pianos, violins, and other musical instruments. The 4400a is the latest in a lineage of mics which wasstarted 6 years ago with our sE2200a. Based on the same capsule tuning, but with a dual capsule to give multi polar pattern function, this mic is a real rarity. Just as good with vocals as they are on brass, drums, woodwind and strings. To top it off, I use them mostly to record my accordions and I cannot believe how accurately they capture the realism of the performance. A440 is widely used as concert pitch in the United Kingdom [8] and the United States. [9] In continental Europe the frequency of A 4 commonly varies between 440Hz and 444Hz. [8] When used with an appropriate threshold seal, and door, the 1212 has an R wof 31dB when used with an acoustic doorset assembly.

All three forms of grade 440 steels are commonly used. However, grade 440C is more readily available than the other standard grades. Grade 440F, a free-machining type of grade 440 series, is also available with a high carbon content similar to that of grade 440C. Martensitic steel grades are high-hardness steels, usually fabricated using techniques that require hardening and tempering treatments.

The mic also sounds great on piano, violin, clarinet, toms, and even handclaps. And with its integrated pad switch, I have yet to overload its all-discrete Class A FET electronics. It's not always the most flattering mic, but it's never a bad choice. Sink it into the car’s deep-pile carpet from stationary and you will hit 62mph in6.6 seconds, but it’s how the fat 650Nm of torque that’s available from just 1,500rpm works in conjunction with the super-smooth eight-speed automatic gearbox that makes progress so effortless. Whether buyers actually plump for the Range Rover Sport for its extra dynamic edge, or the difference in style compared with the new full-fat Range Rover, this latest Sport redesign isn’t as radical as the one its bigger brother received. Instead, it’s more of a concentrated, focused evolution of the breed, with the brand’s ‘reductionism’ theme being successfully applied to the Sport’s still vast but hunkered-down body. In our opinion, at least.Grade 440 stainless steels exhibit excellent resistance to mild acids, alkalis, foods, fresh water and air. A smooth polished surface also helps grade 440 steels resist corrosion in tempered, passivated and hardened conditions. ISO 16:1975 Acoustics – Standard tuning frequency (Standard musical pitch). International Organization for Standardization. 1975.

We tested the mic on spoken and sung vocals, getting excellent results on the spoken voice recordings, as well as on acoustic guitar and violin. Across the board we were impressed, with a very good performance and full-bodied sound emanating from the guitar in particular. Karp, Theodore (1983). Dictionary of Music. Northwestern University Press. p.406. ISBN 9780810106598. It also means the Sport is a consummate motorway cruiser and easy around town; there really are very few situations where the car doesn’t feel at home. Whether you're searching for a single microphone to carry out all of your recording tasks, or looking to add to an existing library of models with a microphone you can throw into a bag for a session and pull out for almost any application, the 4400a is definitely more than up to the job. A frequency response of 20Hz‑20KHz is quoted. On its own, this means relatively little, but the frequency plot is somewhat more revealing and shows a nominally flat response, but with a gentle presence peak at around 10kHz. This type of response tends to produce a largely natural sound, but with an extra sense of clarity at the high end, making it suitable for a wide range of acoustic instruments from piano and acoustic guitars to drum overheads. The sensitivity of 14.1mV/pa‑34 (±1dB) puts the mic's output in the same ball‑park as most other similar studio mics, and although its equivalent noise level of 17dB (A-weighted) isn't outstandingly low, it is again pretty typical for this type of microphone, and certainly quiet enough for most studio tasks. A maximum SPL for 0.5 percent THD at 1kHz is quoted as 130dB, but I suspect that this is extended when the pads are switched in.

Grade 440 stainless steels can be easily machined in their annealed state. Machining these grades after hardening is extremely difficult, or impossible in some cases. All 440 steels are hardenable, meaning they gain additional strength via heat treatment, and they are considered a high carbon alloy steel. When strengthened using this process, 440 steels are the hardest of all the stainless steels, making them both abrasion-resistant as well as corrosion-resistant. When in its soft “annealed” state, 440 steel is easily worked, machined, and manipulated into shape, where it can then be hardened and gain the increased strength for which it is known. Corrosion resistance & temperature effects The modulus of elasticity is a measure of how a material responds while elastically, or non-permanently deforming. A high modulus of elasticity means that is it requires a high level of stress to stretch a material, which can be thought of as having increased stiffness. 440 steel has a high modulus of elasticity, meaning it does not easily yield to stress, and as such makes it a stiff material overall. Grade 440 stainless steels should not be used at temperatures below the relevant tempering temperature, due to loss of mechanical properties caused by over-tempering.

These grades have a corrosion resistance lower than that of other austenitic grades. The applications of martensitic steels are limited by the loss of strength caused by over-tempering at high temperatures, and loss of ductility at temperatures below zero.Grade 440C stainless steels are high carbon steels, which attain the highest hardness, wear resistance and strength of all stainless steel grades after heat treatment. These properties make this grade suitable for applications such as valve components and ball bearings. Grade 440A and 440B stainless steels, on the other hand, have similar properties - except for a slightly lower percentage of carbon in grade 440A. vonHelmholtz, Hermann (1863).
