This book had me hooked from the very beginning, as per usual with this author! She captivated me with character of Summer, who is fleeing from people who have all but put a bounty on her, when she meets Luc and is whisked away to the mafia world in Chicago. As with her other books, the author kept me wondering what would happen next with the end of every chapter, and kept with her tradition of showing the viewpoint from each character. A misunderstanding leads to Summer getting wrapped up in Mafia business (definitely nothing to do with the chemistry between her and Luc…). It’s interesting to see the families through her eyes – someone who is fully aware of the public image of the notorious bosses and their wives. She knows it’s dangerous to trust anyone, especially the Mafia. I just finished cold hearted few days ago and was so pumped for Nikolai book since him and his brother are bat-crap crazy!! I’ve spent my life on the Sokolov Estate, helping my mother with her work as their live-in chef and quietly observing the inner workings of the group of powerful men who never seemed to notice me at all. Until one of them did.

Luc & Summer…<3 A slow burn heated couple! Once they got over and forgave each other, these two actually had a very sweet relationship. It was different and they were thrown together through circumstances but this worked really well for them both. Trust was a work in process, with the mistrust at the start and then Summer holding her secrets close to her chest. I loved when everything came out in the open, it was a slow burn even with the night they shared but now they are building a relationship together. It’s sweet and adds in the family antics helping to push these two together too! If she had a chance she would run from me, and I had to learn what part she played with the men who plotted against me…and who Max Caruso was. I also just really loved the relationship in this one. I loved how they were ready to do everything for each other and how dedicated to the other they were. I just love these kind of very possessive relationship in books and I loved how it was done in this book. I just couldn’t help but keep swooning because these two were just so great together. I absolutely loved the romance in this one, it was just the right kind of possessive for me.And when I fall in love, I dive past the point of no return, completely unaware that every kiss, every passionate caress, is a knife slicing across my skin. It’s too bad she gets to see some of the bl00dshed 🤷🏻‍♀️. He’s gotta do what he’s gotta do, which leads me to It didn't help that I felt no love for the main characters. Bianca, the future of the underworld, couldn't decide if she was a badass or a wallflower. For example, this was Bianca:I wasn’t as big of a fan of this novel compared to the others in the series but I couldn’t tell you exactly why that was. I think it’s common to have favorite books in a series and ones that just don’t call out to you the same, especially when each book focuses on a different couple. I did enjoy both the romance and non-romance storylines overall, as well as how this novel fit in the continuing storyline of the series. Seriously, if you love mafia romance, and/or romantic suspense, then you definitely won’t want to miss this exciting story/series!!!
