About this deal

During the last third of the 19th Century, important British officials were stationed in the main Eastern commercial seaport, the strategic coastal city of Mombasa in Kenya, where, in 1885, they founded the first private social club: The legendary Mombasa Club which reached great fame and popularity as an inviting, idyllic meeting and relaxation place, where the members held lively debates and exchanged news along with their gins & tonics. English gin, a spirit steeped in history and tradition, has undergone a remarkable renaissance, evolving from its infamous 18th-century moniker as ‘Mother’s Ruin’ to its contemporary status as a cornerstone of artisanal distillation and mixology. Its story is a tale of transformation and innovation, with English gin now celebrated across the globe for its quality and diversity of styles. Today, Mombasa Club Gin is still a nostalgic reminiscence of the spirit of those romantic adventurous pioneers of the glorious and epic XIX century English colonialism. Made under the classic English style, Colonel’s gin has a higher ABV (43.5% vol.) And more intense aromas than its namesake. In fact, it contains seven botanicals, highlighting the caraway seed, instead of angelica, and the addition of calamus, an aquatic plant that usually grows in marshy areas. The making of Mombasa Gin Club Colonel’s Reserve arises from a 4 times distilled alcohol of the highest quality, which serves to macerate all the botanicals for a 24 hours . After which is then once again distilled in small pot still designed and built by the London manufacturer “John Dore”. Gustatory Stage: On the palate, it conveys a silky touch, subtly supported by its well-distributed aromas and slight sweetness. The aromatic farewell, is the second value of this gin that reveals a long and calm maceration of the botanicals.

London Dry Gin, the quintessential English gin, is known for its crisp, clean character, with juniper at its heart. Contrary to what its name suggests, London Dry Gin doesn't have to be made in London; rather, it refers to a method of production. This style of gin is made by redistilling ethanol of agricultural origin with an initial strength of 96% ABV in the presence of traditional botanicals, with no artificial flavours or colours added after distillation. The result is a high-quality spirit that's both aromatic and complex.

Mombasa Club Colonel’s Reserve Gin is distilled following the traditional method known as batch distillation. The grain is all sourced from the UK, it is predominately wheat with some barley. No rye is used at all. After three distillations the botanicals are left to macerate for 48 hours before the final distillation is produced in the Tom Thumb 500 litre Pot Still. This prolonged period allows the alcohol to extract much more flavours and oils from the botanicals and gives a much more intense and roundness to the final product. The club was an essential part of the social life during the Colony, where its members kept lively gatherings or exchanged news coupled with their Mombasa Club gins & tonic. An exclusive gin from England and specially distilled and bottled for consumption and enjoyment of its founder members.Made in the London Dry gin style, the Mombasa Club Strawberry Edition is a twist on the original recipe. It is triple-distilled for delicate smoothness before being infused with real strawberries and other red fruits. The result is a sweet, juicy gin which is perfect for the summer. It makes an amazingly fruity G&T when mixed with quality tonic water and garnished with a fresh strawberry and a little sprig of mint. It has a delicate pink colour with rich aromas of strawberries on the nose, and the flavours balance between sweetness and acidity with bold fruity notes. This was where the first private social club was set up: Namely the mythical Mombasa Club. It was founded in 1885 by officials of The British East Africa Protectorate and was exclusively for Englishmen, those either born in the United Kingdom or who held permanent or temporary official positions or, who carried out work for the Imperial East Africa Company. The beauty of English gin lies in its botanicals - the herbs, spices, fruits, and flowers that are selected and infused to create each gin's unique flavour profile. While juniper is the cornerstone, other botanicals like coriander, angelica root, citrus peels, and cardamom are also commonly used. Each distillery has its own closely guarded recipe and method, contributing to the spirit’s vast spectrum of flavours. Mombasa Gin Club Colonel’s Reserve is a special and limited edition in homage to this lineage of adventurers who were able to take the British Victorian Empire to its most glorious period. In the early 21st century, England witnessed a gin revival fueled by a surge in craft distilleries and a growing interest in artisanal spirits. Innovators like Sipsmith, which in 2009 became the first copper-pot-based distillery to start up in London in over 150 years, led the charge, championing small-batch production and premium ingredients. The craft movement has not only revitalised traditional styles but also introduced a new wave of contemporary gins featuring unconventional botanicals and distillation processes.

Olfactory Stage: Aromatically, it enjoys the harmony of a perfect fusion among its botanicals (cassia, caraway, calamus) highlighting, subtly, it’s more floral and citric point. The juniper then balances the whole. A few seconds resting in the glass, magnify the aromas creating a whole world of complexity and flavours from the botanicals.is managed by B Office GmbH (DE318767726 - Court: District Court Flensburg HRB 12943 FL),Suederstrasse 75,24955 Harrislee -Court: District Court Flensburg HRB 12943 FL The future of English gin looks as bright as its past is storied.
