About this deal

Metallic Arts ( Allomancy, Feruchemy, Hemalurgy) · Metalborn · Mistborn · Misting · Savant · Ferring · Twinborn · Compounding · Atium · Lerasium · Harmonium · Trellium I finished all the released books in the Mistborn series ending with this one and I am such a large fan of it! This is a novella taking place during the events of the first trilogy but it should be read after the first trilogy as it contains major spoilers. It has minor spoilers for book 4 so it can be read after it but the important thing is finishing the main trilogy first. You realize that if he were in control, nobody would age? Nobody would think or live? If he had his way you'd all be frozen in time, unable to act lest you harm one another." It’s an unusual book for Sanderson; there’s somewhat less action, and a lot more time-killing while waiting for action. The climactic events are already established, and known by the reader. In some ways, this tends to reduce the tension. For the first third of the book, anyway… and then Kelsier starts talking to Worldhoppers in Shadesmar, and it’s like a whirlwind up in here. Cosmere information and implications all over the place, and Kelsier stirring things up just to keep it stirred, because Kelsier. Edwarn Ladrian (aka Mister Suit): Wax’s uncle, and a member of the Set. Allegedly dead as of the end of The Bands of Mourning, but hey…it’s a Cosmere novel, who knows?

Then, in Shadows of Self, Paalm was using a spike supplied by Trell to gain Allomantic and Feruchemical abilities, as well as to remain invisible to Harmony. Ugh…creepy. Is Trell the true Big Bad of Era 2? Or does Sanderson have yet more secrets to reveal…?However: If you have finished The Bands of Mourning, read its Postscript and the new novella, Mistborn: Secret History, you may proceed. In short, this isn’t the place to start your journey into Mistborn. (Though if you have read the trilogy—but it has been a while—you should be just fine, so long as you remember the characters and the general plot of the books.) This novella is set after the original Mistborn trilogy but Sanderson recommends it be read after The Bands of Mourning. Hence, Mistborn. A thousand years ago, the prophesied hero from lore rose up to overthrow a great and terrible evil. Only, he lost, and the Dark Lord took over and has been ruling with an iron fist for a thousand years. Ash falls from the sky in this barren land, and mists come every night, deep and mysterious. In this setting, a gang of thieves decides that the prophecies were all lies and that they can’t trust in some fabled hero to save them. They decide to take matters into their own hands, and plan a daring heist of the dark lord himself, planning to use the emperor’s own wealth to bribe his armies away from him and take over the empire.

Resurrecting characters is a "dangerous trope" because Brandon wants death to be a real danger for his characters. So he made sure that Kelsier's survival was hinted at and foreshadowed sufficiently. Under Kelsier's command, Spook sends a message to Vin about her spike and Ruin's influence on her. However, Ruin intercepts and kills the messenger using Marsh, Kelsier's brother, who is now under Ruin's control. They then witness Vin's battle and subsequent defeat at the hands of Marsh and the other Steel Inquisitors. With Ruin's rage loosening his control, Marsh manages to use the intercepted message as Kelsier secretly intended and removes Vin's earring spike. Kelsier gives up Preservation's power to Vin, who uses it to kill the other Steel Inquisitors - but she ascends before she can finish Marsh. In Era 2, followers of Kelsier are known as “Survivorists.” Steris and Marasi are both followers of this religion. In conjunction with Southern Scadrian technology, ettmetal can reproduce Allomantic or Feruchemical powers within its vicinity. The Southern Scadrians have also used the metal in primer cubes which can somehow regulate ettmetal’s effects with the flip of a switch. When used Allomantically, the metal is said to burn “with a pure whiteness” and will slowly be consumed, in the same way it would be by a Misting or Mistborn. It is used to fuel Southern Scadrian Allomantic technology, including their airships, which run via Steelpushing.

After being killed by the Lord Ruler, Kelsier meets Preservation as he is about to pass on to the spiritual realm. Kelsier refuses to do so and races to the Well of Ascension at the heart of the Lord Ruler's palace, touching its power and thus anchoring himself to the world. Whilst trapped at the Well, he discovers another entity trapped there: Ruin, the counterpart to Preservation, who intends to destroy the world.

That was unpleasant,” Drifter said, “yet somehow still satisfying. Apparently you already being dead means I can hurt you.” Telsin Ladrian (aka Lady Sequence): Wax’s estranged sister, and a high-ranking member of the Set—even higher than Mister Suit. At the end of The Bands of Mourning, she was shot several times but retained a metalmind and escaped. Powers that we know of: Steelpushing (Allomantic) and Bloodmaking (Feruchemical). I was also honored to be able to complete the final three volumes of The Wheel of Time, beginning with The Gathering Storm, using Robert Jordan’s notes. Six months after the death of Paalm, Wax and Steris go to their wedding. It is interrupted by a nearby water tower falling on the church, allowing Wax to put off the marriage. He is still struggling with killing Lessie.
