About this deal

Issue 1 just hits harder if you go into it knowing no more about Dream than Roderick Burgess and his followers do. Deluxe Editions: Books 1-5 collect the original series, Midnight Theatre, Endless Nights, and both versions of Dream Hunters. It's been extensively collected in various forms: regular graphic novels, audiobooks (on-going, as of this writing), a TV series (ditto), annotated volumes … I have a vague memory of having seen an entire-series-in-one-volume version, but perhaps I just dreamed it.

It has really lovely extra thick glossy paper and it's eight inches wide by twelve inches tall, a huge, gorgeous book. that collects the first 20 chapters of the Sandman series — there are at least five or six other volumes after this one, in the Absolute Sandman saga, published by DC Comics / Vertigo. He used this short tales to build the backstory of Morpheus and how he has interacted with history and legend throughout the eons.

I put off reading Sandman for a long time for some reason, and it's too bad I did because it's pretty awesome. Art from the Troll Bridge graphic novel was selected for the Spectrum annual collection featuring the best science fiction and fantasy art of the year. Tales in the Sand" is very innovative for its decision to tell tales of Morpheus in the past, where he's often just a secondary character.

Speaking of artists, it's impossible to talk about the Sandman series for long without mentioning Dave McKean.

She worked with Alan Moore on an experimental animated webcomic Big Nemo based on the classic Winsor McCay comic strip. Rose goes back to the US to try and track down her brother who she hasn't seen in years, he's now imprisoned by his foster parents and has some dream creatures living in his brain. From meeting the reining Lords of Hell to spending time with Dream's sister Death or even his spat with Desire and Despair- all these momentous scenes are done with flair.

This issue is the only comic book ever to have won the prestigious World Fantasy Award for a short work of fiction. I bought the entire series of it all at once - four Absolute Sandman collections, the Absolute Death edition and the hardback of Endless Nights. But I think that most people, even completely healthy and hale people, couldn't possibly read this without a table. The stories showed that he can be selfless and objective, and the stories showed that he can also be selfish and cruel. However, it's nonetheless really good storytelling with a few sublime moments, such as the battle with the demon and 24 hours [9/10].If you're unfamiliar with the series, but fortunate enough to find a copy of this book at your local library, relish the opportunity, and check it out with all due haste.
