Leonard's Forest, Sussex, England, in the late nineteenth century and to have issued a very limited run - some 100 copies - of DRAGONOLOGY in 1895.

If I have communicated anything in this book, I hope above all that it has been something of wonder not only of these fabulous beasts but of all the beasts, birds, and fishes that inhabit the Earth. The publisher informs us, via subtle hinting, who is or isn't real through publisher's notes - in various guises - at the beginning of each book. The full-page pictures show with panache the attraction of a Medusa, Dracula, or Loki, while the more repulsive monsters are depicted humorously rather than frighteningly. This one also had a lot more things that you can interact with and they were just delightful to manipulate. His record includes beasts of the earth, water, air, and semi-human creatures found around the world, drawing from the mythology of myriad cultures and presenting his findings as fact.It even included mythological creatures I hadn't heard of before, like the Nue, Japan's version of the chimera. Review by my granson as the book is his:Following on from the Dragonology set of merchandise this is in the same ilk. Wayne Andersen has been illustrating in his colour pencil style for over 40 years and is renowned for his playful imagination and fantastic imagery. I will (most likely) not be rating all of the "ology" books I will be reading, because that would end up being a lot of ratings lol (especially since I also checked some out from the library). This book is not to be and should not be mixed up with the actual monster book from Harry Potter, that may eat little fingers; this book can answer, do monstrous krakens really lurk below the deep ocean waves?

This is a used book - there is no escaping the fact it has been read by someone else and it will show signs of wear and previous use. Helen Ward trained as an illustrator at Brighton School of Art, under the direction of well-known children's illustrators such as Raymond Briggs, Justin Todd, Chris McEwan and John Vernon Lord. The ardent student of nature soon learns that those creatures we name foul and terrible monsters are in truth the most fabulous beestes awaiting amaz’d discoverie. Monsterology The Complete Book of Monstrous Beasts" by Ernest Drake is, a fictional children's book about about fictional monsters including unicorns, griffins, the kraken, etc. It's an exciting and innovative way of getting someone interested in the subject and I, for one, would have been totally absorbed by it as a boy.

It's a guidebook by a fictional natural historian who traveled around the world to observe monsters in their native habitats. A fabulous tome for those who love legendary beasts that still wander among us, this lush and luxurious look at an astounding array of creatures offers everything a true believer would want to know. They flash through the air and slither through the seas, crawl through the earth and lurk in the woods.

The creatures and the information are a bit scattered throughout the book due to its scrapbook design, but that helps to make the book seem more "real". This was a highly entertaining book that discussed many common mythological monsters, as well as those that are still commonly talked about today such as kraken's and sea serpents.Dugald has now given up his editorial job to concentrate on writing full-time, especially more books with "ology" in the title. Overall, Monsterology is fantastic and a must have for someone fascinated by mythology, monsters, and fantasy. Medusa’s perpetual bad hair days, not to mention the hairiness of the Sasquatch and the female werewolf, are exploited with glee, and a recurring editorial comment is “Gross! This is a beautifully crafted book and one of a series I'm proud to collect for my daughter, who is 5 now, though I know she will enjoy this for years to come.
