If LVMH do keep Jean Patou fragrances in production, then please do justice to its heritage and use quality absoluts. Parfum keeps its richness all the way to a soft beautiful scent like EDT after hours on the ultimate drydown, while EDT is kinda of dusted flowers like old perfume when it is eventually developed. Joy smells SO clean, I hesitate to say 'soapy' because it's a massive disservice to the nuances here, but it IS similar. JOY is a perfume of flowers that are far from being innocent or virginal: these flowers are carnal, they are sexual, they have body, they have heat, they are “dirty” in the best sense of the word, they like to be pollinated (😂); At first its smell may resemble that of soap, something clean and polished, but if you pay attention, you will feel this “dirtiness” touch deep down. Joy does this very weird thing on my skin where it goes on the most beautiful floral then turns into stale vase water.

EdJ is so very different from the fruity/fresh/candy scents which are currently popular that younger consumers may perceive it as dated. If i have the rate the classics i would say the worst is Air du Temps(very sharp and irritating),then Shalimar(a bit too much civet),than №5(ok but a bit too muscy) and the best and most wearable is Joy. In the end, I will keep this and have it on display, but more so as a monument to past times, rather than the real deal. It's the kind of big, aldehydic floral that screams "old-lady" to my middle-aged nose, and just "vintage" to people a little younger-- with that fizz that wafts above so many of the 20th century greats, and the sensation people hate when they say they "hate perfume. It’s not dirty, it’s not extravagant in a more contemporary way (think 70’s/80’s stunners); it’s simply beautiful. It's floral, VERY floral, the most floral scent of all, but it's not natural: instead of something wild/nature-like, it smells like a greenhouse full of Jasmine and Rose that release all their fragrance into the hot, humid air, some of the flowers even starting withering in the heat, but still releasing its perfume, still singing with all the voice they have. HarlowJeam : my Dear, due to indolic jasmin in this scent it may smell deeply like cat urine for some noses. After hearing the tragic death of Joy, I have these parfum and EDT for months, today comes the time to compare them side by side. There is a bright aldehylic soapiness to the opening - I think aldehydes must be present in the lighter concentrations.

Green notes twine through all this for about 10 minutes when an airy Jasmine appears and grabs my attention, twining through everything.

I imagine Joy mingling with the summer heat and sweat, and it blooms into a gorgeous aroma with a wild touch. after wearing it about 10 times I find that I can't stand the stale notes and that's the end of Joy, for me.
