Description

Hail to the Thief is pretty much packed with forward thinking songs (though Myxomatosis sounds a bit duff- despite having lyrics found like Knives Out on the KidA-booklet)- the album rails at the 21st century waking nightmare. The technical storage or access is strictly necessary for the legitimate purpose of enabling the use of a specific service explicitly requested by the subscriber or user, or for the sole purpose of carrying out the transmission of a communication over an electronic communications network. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Myxomatosis is a dull electronic experiment that doesn't come off, still better to fail than to petrify in retro ooze.

Radiohead's definition of pop has evolved from guitar-driven tracks with a Beatles influence to textured, willfully complex songs dripping with Pink Floyd-like ambition.Scatterbrain is another blend of drum machine and sublime guitar riffs, reminding me a little of Morrissey's I Know It's Gonna Happen Someday, but with an eye on a vanishing future, rather than a vanished past. A Punchup at a Wedding is another fused track, mixing electronic drum sounds with emotive piano and a choir of trading vocals, as a subtle riff underpins the song. Great in this original format or as the extended ‘kid a mnesia’ which fuses this masterpiece with the even more experimental and electronic leaning Amnesia album.

begins slowly, like the end part of Paranoid Android, before veering off into manic Fugazi-sounding territory where Yorke repeats the anti-matra "YOU HAVE NOT BEEN PAYING ATTENTION! Escaping this sorry world in dreamland, a vague Beckettian indicnation surfaces- "We don't want the loonies taking over" as sublime backing vocals and fractally-fractured guitars bend and chime- Where I End and You Begin is another of the more instant songs- something uncertain between and lost, the vague theme of the album?Like the band's best work, Hail to the Thief requires more than a few listens to fully appreciate, but those who stick around will be richly rewarded.
