in the most respectful sense possible I’m glad Merle isn’t around to hear THAT as an example of what ‘country’ radio has stooped to playing . Blake Shelton’s “I Lived It” was the only song I could see myself listening to again, and honestly…it felt like it didn’t even belong with most of the other songs in that top 20. Oh, there was an “electric banjo” on a couple of tunes, but most all of the older songs that Urban cut that had some semblance of “country” in them were gone.

Its artists like this one that give country music a bad name and prevent people from discovering good country artists. Maybe if he’d made his name with said guitar skills instead of with his musical mystery meat that he mischaracterizes as country, he wouldn’t catch so much crap from so many of us.

It grabs for anything and everything it can for mass appeal and throws it in the hopper, sometimes with individual songs sliding in and out of styles three or four times, sometimes even mid verse. Years later, Urban is one of the biggest stars on Capitol’s Nashville roster, and small rock venues like the Exit/In are largely a thing of the past when it comes to his touring plans.

It also debuted atop the Top Country Albums chart, becoming Urban's sixth number-one album on that chart. This is an embarrassment and to market it as Country as well as taking up precious airtime so little girls can say they listen to and like “Country music” is fuckin ridiculous.

Urban also explained that Graffiti U was a combination of those styles he performed during his youth and listened to in his father's record collection. This decision doesn’t have to be at the expense of commercial aptitude as some in the music industry love to portray.
