It's a horror masterpiece that uses the horde of mindless walking dead as a stark, poignant satire on modern consumerism, but what continues to interest me most of the film four decades later is society's insatiable hunger for purchased goods.

The colour of the blood is far from realistic, something Savini bemoans in an interview here (he said it looked good in reality but not on film) and Romero excuses, saying he wasn’t going for realism, but it fits the stylised mayhem on screen and may have been a little too sickening, had the blood and gore looked totally natural. There’s still a few weird spots (like the helicopter scene on the roof in the sky has some vertical lines), but overall this is a fantastic looking 4K UHD disc that is a hefty upgrade over the Blu-ray.surround track opens up the sound field to give a well realised immersive experience, while still maintaining the essence of the original. Unlike some other dual format releases I've seen, you don't need to do a side-by-side comparison to spot the difference – the Blu-ray transfer is a serious step up from its DVD counterparts. What I found interesting, watching the film now, was how much of it reminded me of the current COVID situation. Finally, there is a softcover novelization of the film written by Romero and Susanna Sparrow with an introduction by actor Simon Pegg. Extras: audio commentary by Claudio Simonetti; German, US and Italian trailer; interview with George A.

As much action and carnage as 300, but with a great cast of characters that actually play well off of each other. It's completely open matte up to the edge of the film frame, presented as virtually square, meaning a matte to 1. What should be a one-sided fight – the soldiers are armed with automatic weapons, after all – proves to be anything but. While this trailer might only get a handful people interested who would not have been otherwise, it's really just a fun side-project.With so many features there is quite a bit of crossover in content but there’s something new in every piece and the cast and crew talk so fondly of their experience on the film that it’s a pleasure to listen to them talk about it each and every time. Europe's busiest forums, with independent news and expert reviews, for TVs, Home Cinema, Hi-Fi, Movies, Gaming, Tech and more. The movie isn’t perfect, but Snyder did a great job for his freshman effort as a director, and James Gunn (yes, of Guardians of the Galaxy fame) did a stellar job at writing the blood soaked script.

With excellent gradational differences between the various shades, be it in the clothing, hair or shadows, visibility within the darkest, murkiest corners is consistently strong and solid. ESPECIALLY in the horror genre, where the original is almost always cherished far more than other areas of film. Add to that an amazing extras package that combines new and existing material and you have an unmissable set. The old Blu-ray always crushed like crazy with black levels, but here you can actually see all of the details that you were missing in those dark spots. It wasn’t Tom Savini’s first film as a special effects make-up artist, but it’s the one in which he made his name and lead to him finding fame with Friday the 13th not long after.

Travis Crawford’s commentary discusses Romero’s career as a whole, covering the Dead films in great detail, as well as examining the differences between the various versions of Dawn. Nevertheless, given the many laborious months and work performed by some very talented people on the first two versions, I must say their endeavor has paid off because the results are absolutely amazing, giving loyal fans the very best the film has ever looked on any format. This was part of the agreement made, as Argento’s company financed much of the film and he felt some tweaks would need to be made for non-American markets.Night may have sown the seeds of the zombie genre, but Dawn kicked the doors down and helped it become one of horror’s biggest subgenres (aside from the slasher perhaps) and a cultural phenomenon. Ana is naturally the center of attention, and Sarah Polley is above reproach for playing the terrified, but hardened nurse who does what needs to be done, yest still exercises her conscience. Only thing is, rest and relaxation is the last thing that she’s going to have as her daughter mutates into the living dead before her very eyes and her husband infected with the same evil in the process. Romero at the Toronto Film Festival; interview with Dario Argento (29min); interview with Tom Savini (19min); interview with Nicolas Winding Refn (8min); interview with Taso Stavrakis; "Hotel Bela" (musician Bela B.
