Well, it was hard, because I wasn't clean fasting, and simply put the CLEAN FASTING approach that Gin Stephen's promotes in her book is the key.

Though I HIGHLY recommend "The Obesity Code" (I'm NOT changing my mind) I WILL say that if you are interested in DOING IF - changing your lifestyle, losing weight and dealing with other health issues - this is a WONDERFUL book to read. I already knew I'm going to enjoy listening to Gin herself reading this book to me as I LOVE listening to her on "The Intermittent Fasting Podcast" which I'm totally HOOKED on. The author explains the benefits of intermittent fasting thoroughly and in easy to understand language. Overall, there was some pretty compelling information, but I definitely need to read more before deciding to dive in myself. There are just basic guidelines about the "clean fast" and the different patterns people can chose from - a daily eating window (14-23 hours) or full day fasts (a few of those a week).

If knowing all the benefits of IF interest you and if you’re more concerned with your health than your pant size, give this book a miss. I don't even know how I got to it, or why I looked for intermittent fasting in the first place, though I know for sure it had to do with IF (that's Intermittent Fasting) having many gut health benefits which is my THING the past year. Fung) so this book is essentially a long discussion of how it has worked for her, with a long addendum of what hasn’t worked for her. However, you need to do two things for this process to happen; firstly, you must take away any food sources that provide energy because your body will always use these first.

Been doing One Meal and Day on Intermittent Fasting for 4 months now with the helpful advice from Gin's Book, and I joined the FaceBook group she speaks on the in book, and I have successfully lost 24 pounds so far and still going! So I've started listening to the IF Podcast, learned about Gin (and her Co-Host Melanie Avalon) then continued to Gin's own podcast "Intermittent Fasting Stories" which I absolutely LOVE, so I KNEW it was about time I read her book. A person with 10 or 20 pounds to lose and who is not insulin resistant will not have to restrict as much as a person who has a 100 or more pounds to lose and who is pre-diabetic or even diabetic. Intermittent fasting involves periods of not eating, which encourages biological changes in your body, so it burns existing fat for energy.

Reading (or rather, listening) to this book feels like having an enjoyable conversation with a friend over coffee. I've been curious to learn more about the concept of intermittent fasting, and the book does a very good job of giving a comprehensive overview as well as a good list of resources to go to for more information.I highly recommend reading this book along with Dr Fung’s The Obesity Code to really grasp why intermittent fasting is important and how to reverse insulin resistance.

Eric Westman's, Keto Clarity, Joel Fuhrman's Fasting and Eating for Health and Super Immunity, Jeff Volek's and Stephen Phinney's The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Living, David Perlmutter's, Grain Brain, Randi Frederick's, Fasting: An Exceptional Human Experience, Johnny Bowden's, The Great Cholesterol Myth, Valter Longo's, The Longevity Diet, Dan Buettner's, The Blue Zones: Nine Lessons for Living Longer. However, she says quite readily in her book that if you aren't losing weight on fasting alone, you may need to adjust what you eat.I really appreciate different appendixes in the back of the book which includes Gin personal story, books she read that helped her, 30 journal prompts she provides at the end of the book as well as testimonials from people who have had success with IF. My thoughts: This is my 4th book by Gin Stephens and it was just as good as the others but the shortest. She isn't pretentious or try hard, she's selling something, she just presents the way she tried and failed and then finally found something that worked, and that can probably work for anyone.
