Description

I thought Bitsy was a great female character at the end of the book, I loved watching her character development throughout the book from being one that would shy away from things to being someone who is fighting for something. She knows multiple languages, can play instruments, and mocks the stupidity and absurd behaviors of other characters. A wildly wicked twist on the Brothers Grimm classic Rumpelstiltskin, the reader is easily immersed and enthralled in the storyline. If you are under 16, please obtain your parent/guardian’s permission before submitting or ask your parent/guardian to submit on your behalf. That said the main character does go through an arc and develops in character, I just didn't connect well with that journey.

Creeping Beauty is retelling of Sleeping Beauty, but when Bitsy, our princess, touches the spindle, she is whisked away to another world. I also really enjoyed her personality development throughout this story, from a princess escaping difficult situations to becoming a warrior. Once I saw that the story was a retelling of the classic tale of Sleeping Beauty, I was eager to read it. I was really excited to read this because there are not nearly enough "Sleeping Beauty" retellings out there.People like Peregrine made me wonder what was going on with the story, then I accepted the lead role, only to be thrown off a cliff in a flip-flop. A confident reader could easily cope with this, but I’m not sure they would enjoy it or get as much from it as as they would if an adult reading it to them.

The years spent performing to children as an actor and performance poet enabled me to take my work to children who would otherwise not get to see theatre or possibly read a book, I've performed in libraries and school halls, community centres and tents and have had to discover on the front-line how to ma I know how hard writing a book is and I always feel guilty for not liking a book, and even more so when I can’t finish a book. Freya Hartas’ black and white illustrations appear across most two-page spreads, bringing life to the characters. The worldbuilding was all over the place, the side characters barely existed and nothing important happened. Creeping Beauty caught my eye as it was described as a subversive and feminist take on Sleeping Beauty. I am currently editing my first YA novel which I hope to be able to share with you all in the future. If you’re looking for a fairytale reimagining this could be something you’ll really enjoy but it didn’t quite hit the mark for me. She’s so plain, she lacks grace, the best thing to do is wait for a prince to grant her an happy ending but then she pricks her finger on a spindle and falls down into a world where cutthroats and con artists are more common than curtsies.
