He isn't too bothered by rules, either, which is why he resigned from the FBI to become a jet-setting consultant. Take all of my thoughts with a grain of salt based on personal preference (not every book is for everyone! When I went into my unread library I read the back cover which described a serial killer who performed lobotomies. James Carol's breakout debut novel takes readers on an action-packed rollercoaster ride that fans of Criminal Minds, Silence of the Lambs, Sleepy Head, and the Jack Reacher and Alex Cross series won't want to miss. That one slapped me upside the head and I was telling the author he did a very good job on that one.

Coming from a religious background, she sees herself going against everything she ever believed, and committing almost every sin going in just one, horrific night! If you've read Dead Inside by Chandler Morrison, you'll have some sort of idea of what I'm talking about here, and Dead Inside is now one of my most favourite extreme horror books ever! It was lightning fast, never let you catch your breath, which I can appreciate for the subject matter/it being a novella. Carol has been economical with the supporting cast to ensure that those who appear are memorable and there for a purpose without overloading us with extras. The author makes a big deal about this and at first I was a bit confused as to why any doctoring of the report was needed. This was my first experience of James Carol and I am now wondering if I will have the same frustrations with some of his other books. And he made me chuckle a few times, although you could argue that type of character seemed out of time and place.

That said and by no means wishing to lessen what was a fantastic story, my biggest praise has got to go to reader William Hope. About the book: it was supposed to be a tranquil Friday night for Lauren and her daughter, Tully then, someone knocked at the door.I liked how Jefferson explained to the reader how profilers worked and how offenders have signatures to their behaviour. It’s just a very mean-spirited body horror, with nothing else beyond the vulgar dialogue, nonstop sexual assault, and mutilation.

I had to keep reading just another page, another page, as everything raced towards a high tension ending. Very entertaining, will thrill any crime fan, I think it's got a touch of difference about it, I liked Jefferson, I think the plot was excellent with a unique aspect to it, it keeps you on your toes and interested, like watching a car crash, you don't want to look but you can't help yourself.Lastly, the misogyny in this book was also horrifying to me… and I’m not sure that this was an intentional part of the horror created by the novel. When another young woman goes missing, Winter has to race against the clock to identify the attacker and find the latest victim before it’s too late. I liked the characters and was intrigued to find out more about Winter’s background so wished there was more detail on him. His father's dying words were not spoken aloud but they were mouthed and aimed at his son Jefferson who was watching the execution.
