An angered Bartimaeus threatens to kill him because he believes that either way he will end up in the tin and encourages Nathaniel to free him then and now, but resolves to try to keep him alive after Nathaniel promises to free him after this final task. Recommendations: I loved this book so much, I’d recommend it to anyone who wants to capture the magic of reading as a kid again. He's a great source of comedy, a clever djinni that talks too much and has a knack for getting out of difficult situations. The art in this volume really emphasizes Nathaniel's place as an outwardly-unremarkable preteen, boring facial features and all. The story actually begins as young Nathaniel, who has been treated poorly by not only his master, but other magicians as well.

The Bartimeus Trilogy was one of my all-time favorites, and I think a lot of that was due to the quirky narrating-footnote style of the text.

He wasn't a character you immediately liked, but he was a character that was very real, very understandable, and very original for it. Some genuinely laugh-out-load moments, rip-roaring action, well drawn and complex characterisation and a bloody good story. After being humiliated by Simon Lovelace, twelve-year-old magician Nathaniel schemes to steal the Amulet of Samarkand from Lovelace's own home. Once he is released, Nathaniel sets a fleet of mites upon Lovelace, which he easily destroys, and is punished with a beating from one of Lovelace's imps. Bartimaeus has been dismissed in a cloud of misty smoke and brimstone to his own spirit world and Nathaniel clearly begins to struggle with much more adult ideas of what must be done with his new found reputation, position and rapidly advancing skills and powers.

I would highly suggest reading the remaining two books in the series, as they just get better as they go along, and add depth to the first book. Learning that Bartimaeus: The Amulet of Samarkand is the story of a young apprentice magician, cruelly bereft of his parents and lonely and neglected in his foster home, we may feel that we are in over-familiar territory. Bisa lihat mukanya pula :p Cocok sih, bengalnya dapet, chemistrynya dengan Nathaniel pun terlihat jelas.Previously, Bartimaeus had awoken in the Tower to be unsuccessfully interrogated by Sholto Pinn and Jessica Whitwell, the Minister of Security. A very lonely boy, for magicians do not have children, they simply take apprentices (children of commoners and the parents seem not to have much saying in this). This unlikeliest of pairs will do their best to undermine a conspiracy against the fat, lazy, corrupt government and share a few moments that will make you laugh out loud in the process.
