Grey walked around the side of the building toward the parking lot and found a secluded tree to stand under. I was totally expecting something fluffy and sexy, what hit me like a curveball was the angst and raw emotions portrayed in the book.

So when her team suggests that she enter into a fake relationship with an established actor in need of some good PR, Grey isn't sure what to think. She saw the disappointment creeping over Kelly’s face and hastily added, “But I do have a few things coming up that I can’t really talk about yet. She was hoping that the show would lead her to bigger things, but it just seems to have left her older and more jaded.

In her most self-pitying moments, sweating in her bed in the middle of the night, she worried her career was in the same place it had been before she booked the show—only now she was seven years older. The descriptions really painted a picture without over-explaining, the pacing was wonderful, and the dialogue was witty and realistic. I knew they'd need to deal with certain issues at some point, which added a layer of toxicity to Grey and Ethan's budding relationship. For those who don't know, I was still using my Kindle Keyboard 2, something I have literally had since 2011 (yes, it's twelve years old and yes it still works).

They both made plenty of mistakes throughout the book, but neither was an unlikable character by any means. The conversations they had opening up to each other were really meaningful and it’s not surprising that the boundaries they set became blurry real quick. The cover caught my eye, but it was the significant buzz surrounding this Hollywood romance that had me excited to read it. I found myself reading at a pace quicker than usual, and I became very emotionally invested, which is always a good sign for me that the book is going to be at least a 4 star read. and discover that their feelings might be more than a PR stunt in this sexy chemistry-filled debut for fans of Beach Read and The Unhoneymooners .There is quite a bit of what I would consider "adult content" though (drinking, drug use, triggering situations, etc), so keep that in mind if you're listening at the office. I really liked the first half of the book, there were so many cute scenes; for example when she twisted her ankle and he had to carry her back to the house or when he tried to make breakfast for her. Ethan’s journey in dealing with his grief and alcoholism dominated the story and it did seem like his character arc eclipsed Grey’s. Fake dating is a favourite trope of mine and seeing it in a Hollywood setting seemed really believable to me so I completely bought into it. Grey Brooks is on a mission to keep her career afloat now that the end of her long-running teen TV show has her (unsuccessfully) pounding the pavement again.

They didn´t drag each other down or talked bad about each other in any way and rather supported and uplifted each other, which I loved to see! At first Ethan seems to have the most problems, dealing with his reclusiveness, drinking and grief for what he has lost. He complains a lot about how his father was awful and he wanted to be a good father for his kids, but then, they were not part of his decision to get into therapy and rehab. And the difficult topics were dealt with in a serious, respectful manner and not just a passing thought. This handles MANY different sensitive subjects, but Ethan's relationship with alcohol is a MAJOR part of the story.

It’s a good book and I recommend it if you like serious romance novels, but I like my romances to be light and even a bit funny. When their shared pubilist suggests a PR relationship to help both their careers, they reluctantly agree. With their plan working perfectly, the sizzling chemistry between Grey and Ethan soon starts to feel like more than just an act. All books received for review are either purchased by me or provided in exchange of review, without any monetary compensation.R. stunt, their publicists concoct a plan to hook the two up in a “fake relationship” guaranteed to light up the Hollywood gossip ghouls! I also adored all of the other supporting relationships in the book including those between Grey and her best friend Kamilah, Ethan and his ex-wife Nora, etc.
