Description

Those who purchased Starscream, Skywarp, and Thundercracker could snip off a box flap of each figure, mail them in and receive the Coronation set for free. Unlike the recent Masterpiece toys, the Earthrise line still has plenty of sculpting to give the robots are more robotic / mechanical look. While the pin wasn't added back in, the plastic used for the grey strut the chest piece attaches to uses a stiffer plastic that is less likely to cause it to pop off.

Part of the new Battle Changers series, Battle Changers Starscream transforms from a fighter jet into a robot and back without removing any parts! Control art for Masterpiece Starscream which showed the figure wearing his Crown of Leadership (as seen in the coronation scene of the original animated movie) and a pair of otherwise-pointless flip-out notches in the finished toy's shoulders indicated that Takara planned for a set of clip-on coronation gear.In 2016, the Cyber Battalion Starscream figure (along with Cyber Battalion Optimus Prime and Bumblebee) saw release in the Universal Studios Theme Park, and finally ended up being turned into a Walgreens exclusive. This mold, with a different head sculpt, was also used to make the simultaneously released Alternity Skywarp, and later Thundercracker and Banzai Tron as well. The toy's bio makes a rare fictional reference to Machine Wars, describing the events of the series in the past tense.

This ecosystem of collectible figures allows fans to build out epic space battle scenes, featuring figures that can convert into Modular Battle Station modes and connect together to expand the battlefield (each sold separately, subject to availability). The top section is a rectangular box with small fins coming out on three sides (likely inspired by the button you pressed on the original G1 toy to launch his missiles). Masterpiece Starscream's creation was overseen by famed Japanese mecha designer Shōji Kawamori, who was particularly intent on hiding the robot-mode details on the underside of the fighter mode. During the second Q-Transformers series, the Starscream toy was available in a three-pack alongside Skywarp and Thundercracker. As a rather heavy shellformer, Starscream can easily be separated into both a wingless robot mode and a nearly complete tetrajet via a single friction hinge. However, when you transform ER Starscream (played by George Clooney) you see where the work went on this guy. The short length of the missiles necessary for this gimmick to function means that Starscream does not come with Skyquake's firing missile launcher, since the missiles are shorter than US safety standards allow, although it is incorrectly shown on his packaging. There are some Transformers that are obscure and only appear now and then in the Transformers toy line. This toy also appeared in the Generations Selects Special Comic as a member of the Golden Age, who may or may not be named "Starscream", while the Combiner hand/Prime Armor was repurposed as the Matrix Gauntlet used by Yellow Splendid Convoy. This release also features the nosecone molded in light gray plastic rather than molded in blue and then painted over light gray.

The articulation is pretty much all that most would ask for with smooth and tight joints, but it does lack a waist swivel. Neither the box nor the instructions mention this, but he comes with the gray clip that can hold the Megatron gun that came with other Masterpiece figures, such as MP-1 Optimus Prime or MP-13 Soundwave.

He also has a pair of extra arms (originally from the Kre-O Battleship aliens), plus a buildable hand-cannon, a pistol modeled after G1 Megatron's gun mode, a buildable wing-pack, and a curved energon blade. Like all the other Voyager Class figures, Starscream includes an Enigma of Combination (dubbed the Seeker Enigma), based on a Prime Master, which can attach to Starscream via the previously mentioned Prime Armor or the combined mode chest, which can also facilitate the other previously mentioned objects. The elbows, which previously snapped into place when articulated, now slide freely, and the entire hip joint system can be shifted out of alignment. Part of the first wave of Kre-O sets, Starscream can be built in either robot or red, white, and blue G1-inspired fighter jet.
