No llevaba muchas expectativas y creo que eso y no poder compararla con las anteriores ha jugado a mi favor. Two young women are missing, their only connection being that they attended the same party, hosted by a notorious businessman. In past interviews, Nesbo has said that it’s important that he depicts the murders of women in his fiction because it’s an honest reflection of what happens in the real world. I loved reading my grandmother’s collection of Agatha Christie novels with their wonderfully whimsical depiction of Hercule Poirot. Hole is the anti-hero and he is still a very interesting and complex human being and his story is still fascinating, playing his own music instead of walking with masses.

It has a ticking-clock urgency to it, and the author swings to and fro between key and secondary characters – and key bits of action – which makes for a lively and stimulating read. We start this particular episode with Harry far from home trying to get away from his life after Rakel's murder. As with many of the books in this series, this is quite a lengthy read, made perhaps even lengthier by this reviewer's unfamiliarity with the prior twelve novels in the series and the assortment of characters and their various relationships. It has a YA feel to it, which is not a bad thing at all, but as the book is classified as ‘adult’, be aware that it feels more on the YA side. For me, the first most closely resembled what I thought I had signed up for and although I thought Richard was a jerk, some of the plot developments were interesting.

The real-estate magnate under suspicion on the other hand wants to hire Harry as a private investigator to clear his name from the case. Rating: Thank you to the publisher for a free advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I also hope - for the general safety of the planet - that (rather like Grisham's contempt for actual law) Nesbo's biological data is invented for the sake of a good story rather than real! In addition to Harry’s POV, the reader spends copious time in the killer’s mind--which is sick and twisted. Richard is adamant that he had nothing to do with Tom’s disappearance and that Tom was sucked through a phone in a phone booth. His books leave me thinking and wondering when it comes to crime thrillers, especially those of a dark, Scandinavian nature.
