Both fragrances are still, until this very day iconic, cult fragrances and the favorite fragrances of many memorable woman. It doesn’t seem that frightening to me either, but while I have a very sensitive sense of smell, I also often like distinctive and big fragrances. Se i soggetti o gli autori avessero qualcosa in contrario alla pubblicazione, non avranno che da segnalarcelo, e provvederemo prontamente alla rimozione delle immagini utilizzate.

Naming the fragrance 'fracas' (a word that means brawl or uproar) was just the icing on the grrrrrl power cake. Can see why it is the signature scent of some iconic ladies like Madonna, Courtney Love and Iman, it’s incredible and truly deserves its place in the perfume canon. I think people should wear whatever they want because I don’t think scent is inherently gendered beyond what notes we box into gender categories. If this fragrance was a music it would be "Femme Fatale" by Velvet Underground and if it was an object, it would be pink blush with gold mirror in a burgundy pouch.I think I’ve come a ways and become much more open-minded in that regard (and thank god, because I’ve found a lot of scents that are really targeted toward women that are absolutely divine). Cellier packed her formula with Indian tuberose absolute, which gives it huge power and “sillage” (the olfactory trail). A big bouquet of flowers--I really get the peach and orange blossom at the opening before the tuberose comes in, balanced by lily of the valley to keep things fresh. Tuberose and jasmine accords give a lush creaminess to the scent, while depth and complexity come from sandalwood, musk, and notes of bergamot, mandarin, lilac, narcissus, gardenia, lily of the valley, white iris, orange blossom, and violet.

The problem I really have is not that a scent is “feminine” per se, but that I don’t feel confident wearing it – which I think is an important element of any perfume. And Cellier's scents have been especially vulnerable because she was a chemist by training and often used then-cutting-edge synthetic bases, which later on ceased to be produced. So many of the raw ingredients used then that gave fragrances their appeal have either been banned or depleted and are endangered so many newer fragrances are made with synthetic materials and I believe much is lost in creations. Stewart has never been wrong (we still have our FREE MARTHA t-shirts); Fracas is awesome and its story is almost as good as the smell. The one I use, Surrender to Chance, carries only the current Eau de Parfum version, not the Extrait or Pure Parfum form. i really would like to know if that’s a bit closer to the original formula from the 1940s or if it’s still too cleaner-y.
