Description

Daughters of Castle Deverill began just where Songs of Love and War left off and it took this epic drama to another level.

The sweeping nature of the novel and the grandness in scale, makes it a wonderful romantic saga to get lost in. stars to the first book in this trilogy and deliberately saved this second installment for when I could curl up in a cosy chair and devour it uninterrupted; having finished work for the Christmas break, now was the perfect moment. Although it is not essential to have read the first book, Songs of Love and War, to enjoy The Daughters of Castle Deverill, I believe it enhanced my reading experience.

It jumps through the years with no pause to appreciate the present, meaning stories are rushed and have no emotional impact. The second novel in the beloved Deverill Chronicles, perfect for everyone who loves Jojo Moyes, Rosamund Pilcher and Victoria Hislop. All the characters from the first book are here with the addition of new off spring as the years progress. And the exceptionally compelling, well-paced plot is filled with familial dynamics, drama, emotion, self-discovery, secrets, revelations, love, loss, heartbreak, courage, duty, and passion all surrounded by authentic historical events of the time. So many story lines weaving together, leaving the reader with great anticipation about what happens next.

I didn't like how the family curse was an actual curse from the 1600s, and that ghosts were actually real. Most of my novels are set partly in England and partly in a beautiful location, like Argentina, Italy or France. Celia married well and has the wealth, after all, to keep it in the family and she cannot bear to see it stand neglected. I came into The Daughters of Castle Deverill, the second book in a series written by established British author Santa Montefiore, having just read its predecessor, Songs of Love and War. Shouldering the blame for running up debts that forced him to sell the family castle, JP is isolated and vulnerable. I didn't understand their motivations and actions, some of the "love stories" were just weird and misplaced, and the plot twists were just.

Fall in love with beloved bestselling author Santa Montefiore's epic tale of romance, secrets, family and friendship.I live in London but rent a cottage in Hampshire, which is where I bolt to when I can no longer take the pace of the city and need to spend time in nature to find peace. I probably won’t go back and start over myself, but I do recommend starting at the beginning if this is the type of book that interests you. The book moves seamlessly between the natural beauty of south west Ireland, through to the bright lights of New York city. There's nothing better than sinking into a novel and empathising with the characters as they journey through the novel, experiencing both ups and downs.

The ethos of the books is somewhat modern bearing in mind the period described, having witchcraft, adultery, homosexuality, ghosts and murder in the story. In het begin moest ik lang nadenken wie wie ook al weer was, maar er staat een stamboom van de Deverills voor in het boek, wat het makkelijker maakte. I never dreamt that part two could be anywhere near as good as part one, but I couldn't have been more wrong. Canciones de amor y guerra fue uno de mis mejores descubrimientos de este año, no saben lo mucho que esperaba esta segunda parte,y ha superado mis expectativas. We pick up the story of Bridie Doyle, Kitty Deverill and Celia Deverill Mayberry, their paths going different ways but eventually crossing back again. It's a beautifully written, romantic, heartwarming tale that grabs you from the very first page and leaves you eagerly awaiting the final novel in the series, The Last Secret of the Deverills, due to be published in Canada in January 2019.
