Bauwerk Colour acknowledges the Beeliar Nyungar people, the traditional owners of the land where we make our Limewash. F)or Zorzo the test is how a piece makes you feel: if it quickens your heart, opens your eyes or chills your blood; if it makes you want to go out drinking, or sends you home to brood in the dark.

The ending also made my jaw drop; I had a feeling something was up, but couldn't believe what came of those suspicions! However, if you enjoy immersing yourself in the world of art, you might still want to add this to your list of books to read.

I was totally absorbed into the world of Titian, Leonardo, Michelangelo, Bellini and so many more of the artists all competing for commissions at the same time in early 1500s Venice, but the hero of this compelling book is the lesser-known artist Giorgione.

Instead he finds himself caught up in a conspiracy that stretches across Europe and a marriage coming apart inside one of the city's most illustrious palazzos . You get a real sense of his passion for his work and offers an interesting insight into the way in which artists work.Set in Renaissance Venice, this is a story of the artist Giorgione 'Zorzo' Barberelli, who after hearing gossip from a colour pigment seller develops an obsession with a unknown colour pigment known only as Prince Orient. I've not read anything by Damian Dibben before, but this was one of those books that after a few pages, you know you're in the hands of a very accomplished author. An opportunity arises when a wealthy German merchant, Jakob Fugger, arrives in Venice and is said to be looking for an artist to paint an altarpiece for St Peter’s Basilica. Damian Dibben odkrywa przed czytelnikami świat wielkich, rozchwytywanych artystów początków epoki renesansu.

Atmospheric and suspenseful, and filled with the famous artists of the era, The Colour Storm is an intoxicating story of art and ambition, love and obsession in Renaissance Venice - capturing a moment of artistic invention that echoes through the centuries. As the water levels rise and the plague creeps ever closer, an increasingly desperate Zorzo isn’t sure whom he can trust . The two discuss Damian's recent publication 'The Colour Storm' (Penguin Books 2022) in which Damian harnesses a radical artist-driven insight into the centrality of colour in life in Renaissance Venice. The Zorzo of The Colour Storm is both sensitive (in his concern for Sybille and for his apprentices) and enthused by his work. Alongside the art is a constant sense of menace, not just the dangers to Zorzo himself, but the looming threats of plague, and floods, and the Inquisition. But, in this the colour ascends simplicity and is brought to life with such stunning imagery and description. Instead, he finds himself in a conspiracy of treachery, abuse and underlying currents of a bigger threat. There are quite a few words in a synopsis where when I see them I just can't resist reading the book and one of those words is Renaissance, especially when it's set in Italy.
