The “3” in the speaker’s name refers to the 3 stages of evolution the MiniRig has moved through during the last few years. While there is no dust or waterproofing, Minirig says the Mini is “splashproof.” It’s a bummer the Mini isn’t waterproof as it would have been the ultimate travel speaker that you can use in the hotel or bring to the beach. Aside from the points mentioned so far, there are a handful of additional features that might make the MiniRig 3 more appealing to some professionals.You can toggle between high and low gain (volume) when the subwoofer is on by pressing the button ONCE. This little device can deliver some sensational power, with 40w of RMS to ensure you fill a whole room in seconds.

Today, this device is much more powerful than the previous MiniRig, with a custom 70 mm driver that really delivers sensational power. There’s also the added bonus of the wireless linking function, so you can run multiple MiniRig speakers at the same time. For instance, it’s nice to know that you can link multiple speakers to the same system and create a stereo surround sound effect.

Complete Compatibility

There is no “pairing” mode as such, as they are always pairable when switched on, and they can remember up to eight devices. In this respect I actually found them harder to use than other Bluetooth speakers, in that I sometimes had to actively pair them to my phone when I wanted to use them – turning them on wasn’t enough. I didn’t always need to and I suspect maybe I’m missing something, although I can’t figure out what! For this... hearing really is believing so believe us when we tell you that it sounds loud and amazing! A. Yes either via bluetooth or aux (cable) mode and as a stereo 2.1 system with the Minirig subwoofer. Just bear in mind that the Minirig can go louder than the Minirig Mini so you may notice a difference in volume. For the Minirig Mini and Minirig 3 we use a DSP (digital signal processor) to apply EQ and limiters to the sound. There is a latency (delay) associated with this as audio does an analog-to-digital-to-analog conversion. It is VERY short, however - less than 1000th of a second (<1ms).
