Description

While this is a new model, it actually slots neatly into the same modular system used by the Thrustmaster T500 RS, which was released in the PS3 era but offers some compatibility with PS4. That means the R300 RS can use the gearbox and advanced pedal board Thrustmaster already sells. What you get in the box here need only be a starting point. We’ll be testing the Thrustmaster T300 RS primarily with DriveClub on PS4, Gran Turismo 5/6 on PS3, and a few other racing titles on PC. For those in doubt: DriveClub is not a particularly realistic game, nor is it meant to be. Realistic, accurate transmission of the different elements of each race directly to the user’s hands makes this motor a must-have. Contrary to a simple brushed motor, the brushless motor technology built into the T300RS series racing wheels also allows for an extremely quiet racing experience.

Detachable RACING GT STYLE wheel: 11” / 28 cm diameter racing wheel featuring a brushed metal central spokes. Reinforced rubber texture on the wheel’s entire circumference. We’re slightly surprised the wheel diameter is quite a small as it is, though. It’s roughly the same as the T300, about 70% of a real car’s scale, smaller than the Fanatec rival. A larger wheel naturally provides a more serious, realistic feel. And takes up more space, mind. Games like F1 23 often provide some of the most realistic racing sim experiences around. And as a result, you'll want a racing wheel that can really capture the feeling of Formula 1. Just looking at the Fanatec CSL Elite, you can tell it’s made by nerdy obsessives. After all, who else would choose that funky grey disco ball effect on the base? Not all will love the look, but at least it’s not super-shiny.

Logitech has also upgraded the G923's brake, for more progressive resistance on the depress, while the LED rev indicator and 24-Point selection dial from the Playstation 4 version of the G920 become standard for this wheel. However, the G923 has Logitech's helical gearing system under the hood, which does not provide as smooth a feel as the Thrustmaster T300 RS. The fan gets about as loud as an Xbox 360‘s, which shouldn’t be too distracting if you use headphones or are able to turn the TV’s volume up a little. However it’s not good news if you want to race a few laps late at night without disturbing anyone, where the fan’s close proximity may make its hum quite obvious. The Thrustmaster T300RS is arguably the king of the mid-range when it comes to wheels – but if you don’t know how to set it up properly, you can’t extract the potential this wheel has to offer. Here at The Coach Dave Academy we are here to help, and so, this guide will walk you through step-by-step how you should set up your Thrustmaster T300RS. Step 1: Securing your wheel The wheel base uses a belt system, like its T-series brothers. Some had hoped the T-GT would use a direct drive system, where there are no gears or belts between the motor and “steering column”. But Thrustmaster has gone with something more familiar.

There are good bits, sure, particularly the lower price. However, the Hori Apex (and the Hori Overdrive) is easily the most toy-like wheel in this group. It has plastic gear shifters, fairly cheap plastic pedals and no parts to upgrade. It also has very limited rotation compared with all the other wheels here, turning just 270 degrees rather than 900 or 1080. Auto centre settings – If the wheel automatically centres when you let go. This should be left to be decided by the game.

Many owners end up wanting to upgrade the pedals after a while too. The pedal caps are metal, but this is really just a basic plastic construction, without the stiffness of a great board or more advanced features like a high-end progressive brake. GT EDITION PEDAL SET: 3 adjustable metal pedals included: Metal pedals, Accelerator and clutch pedals adjustable (height and spacing).

If you're on a tighter budget, fear not. The best racing wheels can be found across a wide variety of budget scopes, and we've endeavored to include both affordable and more premium setups. Still, it's worth thinking about the kinds of games you're going to play with a racing wheel. The best racing games that benefit most from a wheel setup are those with more realistic or sim-like elements. Unlike the T500RS, the paddles on the T300RS are attached to the wheel too, so it’s possible change when the wheel is at angle. However, I did feel as though the paddle shifters were slightly less mechanical and rigid – something I like about the original T300RS.Note: On PlayStation®5, your racing wheel also works with all PS4™ compatible games listed in the LIST OF PLAYSTATION®4 GAMES section. The dual-belt mechanism allows for smoothing out of the different data elements received from the race course or circuit. Whether you’re upgrading from an entry-level racing wheel or looking to immerse yourself in sim racing for the first time, the Thrustmaster T300RS GT Edition remains a firm recommendation. It’s ready out the gate for PS5 racers, despite having been on the market for longer than the console itself.

Predictably enough, then, the effect is halfway between the Logitech G29 and T300 RS. It’s smooth-ish, but not entirely, and you feel the effect of the geared motor as it pulls against you when you take a corner at high speed.Given the price, the results are great, though. Racing wheels are a pricey investment for a niche genre, but the T300RS GT Edition is a comprehensive starting point. The belt-driven wheel includes a pedal set with three metal pedals – a step up from the original T300RS model which made do with two.

This GT Edition is based on the standard T300RS that has been available for some time. The biggest change is in the pedals. The accelerator and brake are now joined by a clutch pedal. Those who like to shift gears by hand now only need a gear shifter - we recommend the Thrustmaster TH8A Add-on Shifter. The accelerator and clutch pedal can be adjusted based on your height and distance. For the brake, a progressive resistor can be installed (included in delivery). Only Minor Tweaks Necessary Like others on this list, Hori offers two different wheels depending on the platform you're playing on. While the Hori Apex is for PS4, the Hori Overdrive is for Xbox One. The Thrustmaster T300RS GT gives players exactly what it promises - an authentic racing feeling. It has a high-quality finish and is easy to grip. However, for the fact that you only get a third pedal, the price difference to the standard version is quite high. Though if you attach importance to a manual transmission, the investment is worthwhile. It remains to be said that such a steering wheel requires a racing seat - this is the only way you can fully enjoy its features. T300 RS GT Edition: Price UK First, the G29 is more affordable than the direct Thrustmaster alternatives, the T300 series wheels. The quality of the wheel itself is great too. There’s a metal core and leather stitched over the parts your hands grip. To make it stand out from the standard version, adjustments have been made in some places. The look is almost identical, but instead of the PlayStation logo, a Gran Turismo logo is now emblazoned on the steering wheel hub. The gear changes are also smoother. Authenticity Is Key
