When I watch her acting or her stand up I genuinely belly laugh at the things that she has to say so I was eager to read her memoir My Child and Other Mistakes because I knew that I would be entertained. For anyone who is pregnant, or trying to weigh up whether or not they ever want to be pregnant, this is a really helpful insight into what you might experience and - importantly - that all of the negative experiences and emotions that you may go through are NORMAL and OK! For the first time, Andrew Ridgeley - one half of one of the most famous bands in the world - tells the inside story of Wham! Highly recommend the audible as Ellie really brings all the stories to life with honesty and hilarity.

What I didn't expect was how honest and open it was about areas of motherhood we rarely discuss, the early newborn stage, the post C-section aftermath etc. I truly believe there is something in here for everyone and I know it will be a book I refer to again and again throughout the journey ahead. Going into the book I did think it might meditate a little more on the decision to have children itself, not just in the beginning stages but throughout. Or at least ensure that people always take the free hotel shower caps for future use - who would have thought to use them for that purpose.

I read this over a few long nights with my 4 month old and it felt like she was writing my innermost thoughts that I didn't dare to say aloud. During the intro of her book, Ellie Taylor acknowledges are privileges as a White, Cis woman in a marriage with a Cis man, and later she also acknowledges her privilege when it comes to aspects such as ease of conception and maternal mortality rates (but more on that aspect of the book later.I truly believe that this book should be given to all expectant parents with their bounty packs instead of the token sample of pointless panty liners and body butters.

My Child and Other Mistakes is the honest lowdown on motherhood and all its grisly delights, asking the questions no one wants to admit to asking themselves - do I want a child? Yes – we require all films to be 6 minutes or under, to be entirely original dialogue, to not feature brand logos and most importantly, to only use music with the written consent of the performer and/or publisher either personally or via the PRS system https://www. I found that this constant need to cover each and every base AND run a commentary on how poorly the “powers that be” view mothers and maternity really detracted from the comedy.

See Ellie as your cheerleader, whatever choices you make, and have a few laughs with her along the way.
